Position Overview:
Fiberglass Structural Engineering, Inc. (FSE) is seeking a qualified FRP Piping Inspector to join our team. The successful candidate will ensure the quality and integrity of fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) piping systems used in various industrial applications. This role involves conducting inspections, verifying compliance with specifications, and ensuring that all installations meet the required standards. The position is full-time on a project-need basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspection and Verification:
- Conduct thorough inspections of FRP piping systems, including storage tanks, chemical piping, water conveyance piping, and ducting.
- Verify that all materials and installations comply with project specifications, industry standards, and health and safety requirements.
- Monitor the activities of supervisors, bonders, spool builders, and pipe fitters to ensure adherence to procedures and system design.
- Quality Assurance:
- Identify quality problems and recommend corrective actions or solutions.
- Perform regular audits and surveillances of manufacturing facilities and construction sites to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards.
- Document and report any non-conformances found during inspections.
- Technical Support:
- Provide technical support during the fabrication and installation phases, including reviewing vendor drawings and stress analysis reports.
- Assist in the development of traceability procedures and requalification of adhesives.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, and quality control activities.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on inspection findings and progress to the principal or project manager.
- Ensure all documentation is in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Training and Development:
- Stay updated on the latest developments in FRP technology and inspection techniques.
- Participate in training courses to enhance skills in understanding technical drawings, reporting, and using inspection tools.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a qualified GRP pipe fitter/jointer or equivalent experience in FRP systems.
- Strong understanding of GRP pipe products, materials, system design, and installation issues.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, including isometrics.
- Proficient in using computers for reporting and documentation purposes.
- Must be in satisfactory physical condition with good eyesight as per ISO 9712 standards.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with hydrostatic testing and non-destructive testing methods.
- Familiarity with ISO 14692 standards for GRP piping systems.
- Knowledge of local legislation related to piping installations.
