Position Overview
Accountants at Fibersmith Engineering are largely responsible for the company’s financial recordkeeping and functions, including full accounting and bookkeeping. This includes managing all facets of accounting (period ends, cost and revenue allocation), collaborating with auditors, and handling general accounting responsibilities such as accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Financial Records & Reporting
- Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
- Prepare, analyze, and present error-free accounting reports (e.g., balance sheets, profit and loss statements)
- Summarize current financial status by collecting information for managerial review
- Accounting Functions
- Enter account information and transactions accurately
- Handle monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
- Guide and coordinate with accounting clerical staff, answering questions and ensuring accuracy
- Recommend financial actions by analyzing various accounting options
- Compliance & Controls
- Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, SFAS rules, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Work with auditors and taxation authorities as needed
- Enforce adherence to legal requirements and advise management on needed actions
- Process Improvement & Analysis
- Identify and resolve financial discrepancies through research and analysis
- Spot errors and suggest process improvements that enhance efficiency and reduce costs
- Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing trends
- Maintain data security and confidentiality by following internal controls and performing database backups
- Customer & Team Collaboration
- Provide accurate, up-to-date financial information to management and colleagues
- Handle inquiries regarding accounting policies and procedures
- Maintain a high level of professionalism when working cross-functionally and with external partners
Required Skills
· Solid understanding of Accounting and Corporate Finance principles
· Skilled in Financial Reporting with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
· Proficiency in GAAP, SFAS rules, and other relevant standards
· Excellent time management and data entry skills
· Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
· Experience researching and interpreting accounting policies and regulations
· Strong Microsoft Office skills (especially Excel)
· Analytical mindset for spotting trends and solving financial discrepancies
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills for a collaborative team environment
Education, Experience, and Licensing
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related business field
· CPA certification preferred, but not required
· Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in accounting/finance
· Proven experience meeting financial reporting requirements
· Familiarity working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas is a plus
