Position Overview:
The Auto Body Prep Technician is responsible for preparing parts for paint, ensuring surfaces are properly prepped, and supporting the overall refinishing process. This role requires knowledge of surface preparation, masking, sanding, and the application of primers and coatings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operates and uses all painting equipment in accordance with safety standards
- Prepares surface for bonding and aesthetics
- Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated
- Fills cavities with putty to attain smooth surface
- Knows how to properly sand, featheredge and prep for paint
- Mixes primer, paint and surface treatments in accordance to specifications
- Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color
- Inspects primed / painted units for quality of workmanship
- Look for ways to improve and promote quality, monitors own work to ensure quality and applies feedback
- Maintains tools and keeps equipment clean and in a proper state of repair
- Keeps work area clean
- Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment, including respirator, in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer
- Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners, and other hazardous materials. Reports any deviations to management.
- Cooperates and assists other personnel in the repair and prepping of vehicles
- Consistently utilizes all required safe equipment and follows proper refinishing procedures in compliance with OSHA guidelines
- Adheres to all requirements hazardous waste disposal
What You Will Bring to the Team:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in auto body preparation or a related field
- Knowledge of various painting techniques and surface preparation
- Ability to use hand tools and mechanical equipment, including sanders, grinders, and spray guns
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work
- Familiarity with automotive painting processes, including primers, base coats, and clear coats
- Ability to read and interpret repair orders, blueprints, or diagrams
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and procedures in an auto body repair shop
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and work in various physical conditions
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Hours of Operation:
Normal business hours: 1st Shift 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, 2nd Shift 4:00 PM – 1:00 AM; Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and holidays as scheduled.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Indoor and outdoor tasks involving walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and operating material handling equipment.
- Requires walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, bending, reaching, handling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Exposure to noise, fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals, requiring personal protective equipment.
- Some roles require hand-eye coordination and specific vision abilities.
