Job Title: Bulk Stocker

Reports to: Grocery Manager

Purpose: To efficiently stock products within the Bulk department, provide excellent customer service, and maintain cleanliness in the department.

Status: Part Time/ Full Time,Hourly Hours: Approx. 20-40 hours per week, including nights and weekends as needed

Primary Responsibilities

Customer Service:

Customer service is at the center of everything we do. Staff are expected to treat customers in a respectful and courteous manner, paying close attention to their individual needs.

  • Greet and offer assistance to customers.
  • Be open and ready to assist customers, fielding their questions, concerns and requests.
  • Assist customers in all departments in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner.
  • Answer and resolve phone inquiries as needed.
  • Resolve customer complaints in a fair and tactful manner.
  • Create avenues for communication and achieve results by promoting teamwork and working collaboratively.

Stocking:

The Bulk Stocker is primarily responsible for maintaining stock levels within the Bulk department, which includes both Conventional and Organic products. The Bulk stocker should be knowledgeable of the products we carry, and should maintain a clean working space to create a welcoming environment for all customers.

  • Follow proper lifting and handling procedures to ensure personal health and safety.
  • Open boxes/bags carefully and safely so as not to cut the products or yourself.
  • Efficiently stock products from storage or delivery areas to the correct bins on the sales floor, taking the time to carefully rotate the stock to ensure the freshness and quality that Fiddleheads customers have come to expect.
  • Remove and record damaged, out-of-date, and spoiled products.
  • Maintain clear pathways in aisles when stocking while the store is open, cleaning up any spills as you go.
  • Properly re-seal, label and date overstock and return to the proper location in our backstock, including refrigeration as required.
  • Stack and/or break down boxes while stocking. Recycle empty boxes.
  • Take initiative to stay productive throughout the shift.

Communication:

  • Communicate respectfully, openly and honestly.
  • Listen attentively to others, ask questions, and remain open to other viewpoints.
  • Practice empathic listening skills.

Other

  • Sweep up debris in aisles and walkways. Mop up spilled liquids or tracked in rain and snow. Put up wet floor signs to prevent slips and falls.
  • Dust and wipe shelves, cases and products and maintain an overall clean presentation of the store.
  • Review invoices for accuracy and make corrections where necessary, including signing and dating the invoices in the correct fashion.
  • After delivery is checked in make sure it is distributed to the correct department or person.
  • Maintain a clean and organized receiving room, including sanitizing carts and vacuuming at the end of the workday.
  • Alert management regarding any equipment issues that require repair, replacement, and desired equipment or
  • Other tasks as assigned by management.

Additional Customer Service specific to the Bulk Department:

Personal care and attention should be directed to all customers to ensure that shopping at Fiddleheads Food Cooperative is as comfortable and satisfying as possible. The Bulk stocker is responsible for providing excellent customer service.

  • Treat customers in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Answer all Bulk-related customer questions.
  • Become familiar with the product lines, including preparation and serving methods.
  • Assist customers in placing pre-orders.
  • Know product locations and assist customers in finding what they need in the store.
  • Accompany customers to other staff as needed to answer questions.
  • Monitor point of purchase information including signs, specials, and out-of-stock signs to ensure it is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain department in a clean and orderly fashion to ensure shopping ease and safety.
  • Ensure department employees assist customers fully and answer their questions, needs and requests.
  • Encourage and answer all customer suggestions, requests and complaints pertaining to Bulk.

Additional General Responsibilities:

  • Know what makes Co-ops unique and how to explain/promote Fiddleheads membership.
  • Take the initiative to increase your own product knowledge.
  • Develop working knowledge of where products are in the store and/or where to locate information about products.
  • Willingness to learn about and take on new responsibilities.
  • Orient and be helpful to new employees.
  • Set a positive example for co-workers.
  • Maintain good working relations with other Fiddleheads staff.
  • Encourage and demonstrate good team behaviors.
  • Attend staff meetings and staff training sessions.
  • Follow storewide policies & procedures and the expectations outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Provide customer service in other areas of the store as needed.
  • Answer phones as necessary.
  • Accept other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to properly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to repeatedly and regularly lift 30 pounds.
  • Physical flexibility to stand, walk, squat, bend, balance and rotate body.
  • Physical ability to work in extreme cold environment for limited periods.
  • Excellent sense of organization and follow-through on commitments.
  • Ability to develop and maintain mutually respectful relations with customers, staff and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and motivate self and others.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands.
  • Excellent and consistent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Knowledge of whole, natural, and organic foods preferred.
  • Experience in setting and stocking grocery products preferred.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $16.65 per hour
