We are currently seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our esteemed team in Garden City, GA. As a Staff Accountant, you will support the Controller in managing all accounting information related to several cemeteries, month-end close procedures, and other regular accounting functions. This position requires at least 4 days in office.
Responsibilities:
Cemetery Merchandise Procurement:
- Verify purchase orders for accuracy and consistency with company policy
- Track outstanding orders in the cemetery operating software
- Check invoices against purchase orders and submit for payment to accounts payable
Payroll
- Balance AR reports and work with administrators to manage any discrepancies
- Report sales commissions for payroll and run reporting related to cash receipts as part of the month-end close
- Enter commission schedules into Company’s operating software for new counselors
Trusting
- Calculate monthly trust deposit and withdrawal information for endowment care and merchandise & services trusts and distribute to trustees
- Prepare information and assist Controller in the preparation of annual state reports
AR / Bad Debts
- Report accounts receivable by location monthly, sending delinquency reports to onsite general managers
- Manage delinquency letter distribution via third-party vendor
- Update operating software and cancel or refinance contracts as needed
Other
- Track and report cemetery inventory monthly
- Manage Accounting Clerk to calculate and submit sales tax reports
- Reconcile company credit cards and distribute cards to new team members
- Set up payment vendor integration for new acquisitions
Requirements:
- 2 years experience in an accounting or bookkeeping function
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Motivated, self-starter who requires minimum supervision and is open to learning
- Organized and very high attention to detail
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and digital spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets)
