What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN- Oncology Chemo Certified 12-hour day shift Springfield Memorial Hospital position at Fidelity on Call LTD?
Pay Rate: Rate may vary due to local or non-local contracted rates: $50-55 combined Rate of pay. (Pay packages are a combination of taxable hourly rates, tax free allowances for travel, housing, and meal allowances)

1. Chemotherapy Administration:
- Administer chemotherapy drugs and other oncological treatments according to protocols and physician orders.
- Monitor patient reactions during chemotherapy and manage immediate side effects such as nausea, vomiting, or allergic reactions.
2. Patient Assessment:
- Perform comprehensive assessments of patients before, during, and after chemotherapy treatments.
- Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and clinical indicators to detect complications early.
- Provide ongoing assessments of patients physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs.
3. Side Effect Management:
- Assess, educate, and manage side effects related to chemotherapy such as fatigue, pain, and infections.
- Administer medications or other interventions to alleviate or prevent side effects.
- Provide support for patients and their families to manage long-term side effects.
4. Education and Counseling:
- Educate patients and families on chemotherapy regimens, potential side effects, and self-care practices during treatment.
- Guide patients on managing treatment side effects, nutritional needs, and lifestyle adjustments.
- Offer emotional support to patients, addressing concerns about treatment, prognosis, and quality of life.
5. Care Coordination:
- Collaborate with oncologists, other medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care.
- Coordinate follow-up appointments and additional treatments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with hospital or healthcare facility guidelines.
6. Certification and Compliance:
- Ensure all chemotherapy treatments comply with institutional policies, safety guidelines, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification and stay updated on the latest oncology nursing practices.
7. Continuing Education:
- Participate in ongoing education to stay current with advancements in oncology care, chemotherapy protocols, and new cancer treatment modalities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification (usually required within a specified period after employment).
- Knowledge of chemotherapy drugs, side effects, and oncology nursing protocols.
- Ability to provide compassionate care, communicate effectively, and educate patients and families.
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment:
- Hospitals, oncology centers, outpatient clinics, or other healthcare settings that offer chemotherapy services.
