Job Summary:
The PACU RN is responsible for the post-operative care and monitoring of patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical or procedural interventions. This role requires high-level clinical judgment, rapid response to critical changes, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor patients post-anesthesia to assess vital signs, level of consciousness, pain, and any complications.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing protocols.
- Provide post-operative education to patients and families regarding care, discharge instructions, and follow-up.
- Collaborate with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a safe recovery.
- Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Respond to emergency situations with appropriate interventions such as CPR, medication administration, or advanced airway management.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients by adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain competency in PACU care.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
- Licensure: Current RN license in Insert State
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Preferred or required based on patient population
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years nursing experience; PACU, ICU, or ER experience preferred
- Experience with airway management, hemodynamic monitoring, and post-operative care a plus
