The Optometrist must be able to provide at least two (2), six-hour clinical visits per month. The overall total of clinical visits for a contract year will be 144 clinical visits per year. Working hours between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding Federal Holidays.
Summary Of Duties
The Optometrist will provide Services for the prison population at the Federal Correctional Complex-Hazelton, Secure Female Facility. Services includes providing but not limited to diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye diseases as well as helping to facilitate the management of related systemic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, sexually transmitted diseases, and rheumatologic conditions.
Qualifications
The contract employee is expected to wear professional clothing that is appropriate to the correctional environment while on duty; business attire or scrub-type uniforms are approved. No articles of clothing worn by the contract employee will be of a khaki tan, khaki green, tan, dark green, gray, orange, or camouflage color or pattern. Footwear will be closed-toe, flat-bottom, and completely cover the feet; fluid resistance and non-slip soles are preferred. Protective vests will be supplied by the institution.

- Citizenship Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquires, Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
- Type of Employment: Part-Time, 12 hours per month.
- Estimate Pay: $64.00 - $68.00/hour based on experience.

Qualifications
- Must have a Doctor of Optometry degree from an educational program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) at the time the degree was obtained.
- Applicants must have received a passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
- Experience in providing healthcare in a correctional setting
- Additional professional education and certifications
