- Clearance Requirements : National Crime Information Center (NCIC) check with fingerprints and Drug Screen.
- Type of Work : Full-Time, 40 hours per week.

- Sick Leave : Up to 56 hours per year with accrual from day of hire.

Education & Experience :
- Completion of an Accredited Medical Office Assistant / Medical Assistant Program.
- A valid driver's license.
- Current CPR certification.
- Completion of Continuing Medical Education training for the last three years.
Highly Desired Qualifications :
Experience working in a correctional environment.
Attire :
The Medical Office Assistant is expected to wear professional clothing while on duty. The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employee will be performing.
Working Hours :
Work will be performed Monday through Friday, excluding Federal Holidays, typically from 6 : 00 a.m. to 2 : 30 p.m . OR 7 : 30 a.
m. to 4 : 00 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. The schedule may change based on the institution's needs and the unpredictable nature of the correctional environment.
The work week will not exceed 40 hours, and no overtime is authorized. The Medical Office Assistant must be available for emergencies as necessary.
Duties / Responsibilities :
All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Medical Office Assistant Services, and compliance with all federal and state policy and regulations.
The contractor shall adhere to all standards and regulations associated with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and American Correctional Association Foundations / Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions.
Clinical
- Working collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff to meet the quality standards and the Health Services mission at each institution in the Federal Correctional Complex.
- Administers and documents medications according to policy / procedure and physicians' or Apps orders.
- Administer, perform, and document non-medication orders that is transcribed from the physician order system that
- includes but is not limited to dressing changes, blood pressure checks, glucose checks, weight checks, vitals, and other nursing duties.
- Assisting mid-level providers, nurses, and physicians in clinical activities including but not limited to scheduling their callouts, performing vital signs, performing physician orders, stocking their medical supplies, and other duties as assigned.
- Draws blood from patients for analysis or other medical purposes.
- Operates EKG machine and other special medical apparatus / equipment within the Health Services Unit.
- Assists visiting clinical specialty consultants in the management and coordination of patient flow through chronic.
- care management, optometry, and general clinics when scheduled.
- Assists telemedicine clinics when necessary.
- Performs vaccinations and PPD skin tests when necessary.
- Assists Infectious Control Nurse and IOP Nurse in influenza clinic and BOP Benchmark measures as needed.
- Ensure medical and office supplies are in the examination and treatment rooms.
- Performs screening vision examinations and assists physicians, nurses, and mid-level practitioners with minor surgical cases.
- Perform quality checks on Point of Care : Urinalysis and glucometer or other equipment.
- Organize and stock the medical supply room as needed.
Administrative
- Scans various medical and diagnostic reports into Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR) daily.
- Copies various records necessary for Freedom of Information Act compliance, administrative Tort claim investigation, and litigation use.
- Provides copies of medical records to inmates and outside medical facilities following the policy of P.S. Health Information Management.
- Place callouts for clinical staff as needed.
- Provide administrative support services to include answering radios and telephones, etc.
- Process escorted trips authorization trips as needed for emergency and special outside medical trips as necessary.
- Assist with uploading onsite / offsite orders into the comprehensive medical portal so they can schedule appointments appropriately as needed.
- Obtain medical / diagnostic reports from the comprehensive medical portal to upload documents into BEMR.
- Assist with billing and credit card statements using different computer programs.
