SUMMARY
The Cesar Chavez Environmental Corps (CCEC) is a division of the Farmworkers Institute of Education and Leadership Development (FIELD). DEFINITION
The Crew Supervisors primary duties are to provide leadership and support to Corpsmembers to help fulfill the mission of FIELD/CCEC.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
- Plan, schedule, coordinate, assign, and supervise the work of crews
- Ability to write routine reports.
- Motivate crews to complete tasks to the best of their abilities
- Counsel, motivate, and provide positive corrective direction to Corpsmembers
- Inspect work in progress and upon completion and ensure high quality of work
- Prepare daily/weekly reports of crew activities such as daily timesheets, and other reports as requested
- Demonstrates the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, as well as train others.
- Ensure the safe use of equipment and materials and the use of safe working methods,techniques, and procedures
- Educate and ensure safe worksites and practices, as well as the proper maintenance of tools and vehicles
- Determine personnel, equipment, and materials needed for work assignments
- Train Corps Members in essential crew functions
- Complete training(s) as necessary (tools, job skills, etc.)
- Serve as a role model, mentor, and counselor to assigned crew of corpsmembers
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position supervises the work of Corpsmembers, and may oversee specific projects at various sites.
- Supervises up to 10 Corps Members in a job site and/or classroom setting.
- Acts as a role model and mentor to subordinates
JOB QUALIFICATIONS /REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of:
- Must have a strong understanding of Conservation Corps activities
- Must be able to effectively utilize a chainsaw, various hand tools, fencing equipment, and trail building tools
Skills:
- Must have a competent level of computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite/Google)
- Interpersonal - Demonstrate sensitivity, understanding, and the ability to effectively interact with individuals (internal and external) from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, disability and ethnic backgrounds
- Correct English usage, including grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
- Effective problem solving
- Organizing and Planning- Ability to structure tasks, establish priorities and set goals Corpsmembers
Ability to:
- Direct and evaluate Corpsmembers
- Demonstrate professionalism and work ethics
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, self-discipline, and self-awareness
- Must be able to be physically engaged, lifting, pushing, pulling, etc. of 50 pounds repeatedly, independently and throughout your entire work shift
- Must be able and willing to participate in spikes where you may camp outdoors or lodge in primitive conditions for periods of time up to eight (8) days
- Must be able to conduct company vehicles (Drivers are subject to random unannounced drug and alcohol testing.)

EDUCATION
- High School Diploma is required
- Associates Degree in either Urban Forestry, Environmental Conservation, Community Development or preferred
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Minimum one (1) year experience in a supervisory position
- Minimum of one to two (1-2) years conservation corps or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid California Driver License
- Must have approval from Insurance Carrier to operate company vehicle
- Must have a spot free driving record for at least 2 years
CERTIFICATIONS:
- First Aid/CPR certificate, preferred, but not required
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to travel as needed/required
- Traveling up to 70% required
- Must be able and willing to participate in spikes where you may camp outdoors or lodge in primitive conditions for periods of time, up to eight (8) days at a time
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Bilingual preferred, but not required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside conditions (extreme heat and cold, wildlife, steep incline/uneven grounds, etc.) and warehouse environment. Driving a CCEC vehicle to conduct work; driving a vehicle during adverse weather conditions; working around machinery having moving parts and vehicles. Regular exposure to fumes (including fumes from vehicle and equipment operation), dust, gasses, and odors. Exposure to cleaning agents, chemicals, skin irritants, and electric shock. Must be able to enter bodies of water such as lakes, creeks, channels, rivers, etc.
