About Our Internship
Join us! Work alongside our team—Audience Insights & Research—to empower the Field Museum to make data-driven decisions. We strive to understand our visitors, how they engage with the museum, and how our exhibits and programming inspire learning, curiosity, and fun! Help us plan and execute using evaluation methods based in social science and human-computer interaction. We are seeking an intern to help with the following STEM-based projects:
Responsibilities:
- Engaging in data collection on the Field Museum floor - Interacting with museum visitors to collect data about the effectiveness of our science-related exhibitions using online surveys, assessments, and/or personal interviews.
- Processing qualitative and quantitative data - Cleaning, formatting, and quantifying textual data gathered from a recent exhibition by identifying and creating new variables that can be used for statistical analysis. May also include cleaning and formatting quantitative data to ensure actionable analysis, as well as assisting with data analysis.
- Developing “Visitor Survey” database for visualizations - Collating and formatting data from our multi-year Visitor Survey to create a “live” database that can be used for visualizations. Includes development of new variables and assisting with visualizations.
- Support team members on other projects as assigned
- Maintain the highest ethical standards and research equity in all projects
Qualifications:
- Ideal candidates must be pursuing or have received a bachelor's or master’s degree in social science, liberal arts, museum studies, statistics, marketing, or a related field with some quantitative background.
- Experience with Tableau or Power BI a plus.
- Ability to work onsite at the museum 15 hours per week during regular museum office hours (9 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday). Evening and/or weekend hours are not available on a regular basis (but may be required on a limited basis for specific data collection projects). The ideal candidate is able to work either two full weekdays or one full weekday and two half days, but we are open to other arrangements.
- Must be 18 years and older
- Spanish or Chinese language skills (conversational level or above) are a plus.

-Experience working with groups of diverse backgrounds; comfort in approaching and engaging with
others.
- Collaborator who works well independently and on team projects.
- High level of initiative and exceptional problem-solving skills.

Internship Requirements
Interns are asked to commit 14-15 hours per week for 10 weeks. Timeline: Desired start date of January 6th, 2025 through April 6th, 2025 (with possible extension to end of May 2025).
