Women in Science Internship - Genomics and Museum Studies in the Invertebrate Zoology Collection (Undergrad Students)

This summer internship offers hands-on training at the intersection of natural history museum practices and genomic sequencing techniques. Interns will gain experience cataloging and curating biological specimens while learning fundamental laboratory methods, including DNA extraction, PCR, and sequencing. Participants will assist in research projects aimed at understanding the biodiversity, evolutionary relationships, and species conservation of freshwater mussels. The program emphasizes skill development in bioinformatics, data analysis, and scientific communication within a collaborative museum research environment. Ideal candidates are motivated students with an interest in biology, genetics, museum studies, or related fields, eager to integrate museum collections with cutting-edge genomic technologies. Previous experience in molecular laboratories and natural history collections is a plus but not necessary. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel) and have strong organizational and communication skills.
This internship is for women and those who identify as such at the undergraduate level.

Initial HR Orientation is on Monday, June 16th w/full time hours of 35 per week starting on June 23rd, 2025 - July 31st. Salary of $17.5 per hour.
