What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager position at Field Studio Landscape Architects?
The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the management and execution of landscape architecture projects from concept through to completion. This role requires someone who is highly organized, proactive, and an effective communicator, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Project Managers work closely with clients, design teams, and contractors to ensure that each project aligns with our firm’s vision and client goals.
Essential duties & Responsibilities
Project Leadership and Coordination:
- Manage and provide planning, design and construction leadership for multiple, large, and/or complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Coordinate design teams, contractors, and consultants throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project schedules to ensure deadlines are met and adjust as needed to keep projects on track.
Design and Planning Oversight:
- Oversee project work including, but not limited to, scheduling, resource utilization, Field Studio Project Principal approvals, and site inspections.
- Guide the design team in developing innovative landscape solutions that meet client objectives and sustainable design standards.
- Review design concepts, plans, and technical drawings for quality, accuracy, and feasibility.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure integrated and cohesive project delivery.
- Conduct site inspections during the construction phase.
Contracts:
- Write and/or participates in proposal presentations in tandem with the Project Principal.
- Negotiate and maintain contracts and develop additional service agreements for changes in project scope of work for review and approval by the Project Principal.
- Maintain current contracts.
Client Relations:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and addressing concerns with support from Principal.
- Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships through clear, consistent communication and exceptional service.
- Conduct meetings and presentations to discuss project progress, resolve issues, and gather feedback.
- Provide creative and technical solutions to meet client needs while balancing project scope, budget, and timeline.
Budget and Financial Management:
- Develop and maintain project budgets, ensuring effective cost management.
- Manage proposals, bids, and change orders, ensuring they align with the project’s scope and budget.
- Effectively review client invoices in a timely manner.
Inner Office: Team Leadership and Mentorship:
- Manage and mentor junior staff and interns, providing guidance in project execution, design, and professional development.
- Foster a collaborative and creative work environment that encourages innovation and teamwork.
- Lead one office field trip per year.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Review all project documentation for consistency, accuracy, and compliance with design goals and client expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning, Urban Design or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and professional experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in a related role, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory position.
- Ability to multi-task. Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously and ability to meet fast-paced project timelines and take on diverse projects.
- In-depth knowledge of landscape architecture design principles, construction methods, and sustainable practices.
- Demonstrated success in managing client relationships, project timelines and budgets.
- Construction Administration experience including job site meetings, issuing supplemental instructions, review of submittals and shop drawings during the construction phase.
- Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software, such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong graphic communication skills, including sketching, rendering, and proficiency in digital media and software. Creative problem-solving and technical design abilities.
- Ability to work independently, delegate tasks, and oversee multiple projects at different stages.
- Solid technical knowledge in construction and experience in preparing construction documents with attention to QA/QC.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Working knowledge of accounting, billing procedures, and project budget creation and management.
- Proficient in Lumion and working knowledge of Rocky Mountain plant materials
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) or the ability to obtain licensure is preferred but not required.
- Membership in related professional organizations is strongly preferred.
