Job Description : Design Engineer at Sunbelt Controls

Position Overview : Sunbelt Controls is seeking a talented and innovative Design Engineer to join our team. This role is critical in designing, developing, and optimizing building automation systems (BAS) to ensure energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and operational effectiveness. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical, electrical, or controls engineering, with a passion for delivering high-quality, tailored solutions for clients.

Key Responsibilities :

System Design and Development :

Design and create detailed building automation system layouts, including control schematics, system architectures, and wiring diagrams.

Develop sequences of operation (SOO) for mechanical systems and integrate them with building automation systems.

Technical Documentation :

Prepare engineering submittals, including control drawings, equipment schedules, and project-specific documentation.

Collaborate with project teams to develop technical specifications and ensure compliance with project requirements.

Collaboration and Coordination :

Work closely with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders to understand project needs and provide innovative design solutions.

Coordinate with field technicians, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless implementation of designs.

Software Configuration :

Program and configure BAS software platforms, including control logic and graphical interfaces, to meet project specifications.

Test and validate system functionality to ensure performance and reliability.

Quality Assurance and Compliance :

Ensure designs comply with local codes, industry standards, and company best practices.

Participate in design reviews and provide input on system improvements.

Innovation and Development :

Stay up to date with advancements in building automation technologies and incorporate them into project designs.

Contribute to the development of new engineering processes and methodologies.

Qualifications :

Education : Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Controls Engineering, or a related field.

Experience : 3 years of experience in building automation system design or a similar role.

Technical Skills :

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other design software.

Experience with BAS platforms such as Honeywell, Siemens, Johnson Controls, or Tridium.

Strong understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical systems, and energy management principles.

Soft Skills :

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment.

Detail-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality designs.

Preferred Qualifications :

Certification in relevant BAS platforms (e.g., Honeywell, Tridium).

Knowledge of energy efficiency and sustainability practices.

Experience with project management and working on large-scale commercial or industrial projects.

Work Environment :

This position may require occasional site visits to client locations for system inspections and project coordination.

Hybrid work environment with opportunities for remote work based on project needs.
