POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Policy, Advocacy and Organizing Manager, the PAO Projects Coordinator will support the scope of work to enhance a local Richmond park called the Humphrey Playlot. In addition, this role will support the statewide partnership work with the California Black Power Network (CBPN) and FIERCE Advocates’ Black Village Network (BVN) to amplify local power building with Black residents. The extent of the work includes: field excursions, outreach, engagement programs, events coordination, and meeting attendance. The position works closely with the Organizer and Leadership Development Coordinator to funnel residents toward FIERCEAdvocates’ leadership development programs to build a network of powerful resident leaders advancing policy changes in Richmond, CA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruit and inspire residents in Richmond and West Contra Costa County to organize around issues they care about in a sustainable way
Facilitate hands-on activities focused on team building, organizing and campaign planning for Humphrey Playlot and California Black Power Network projects.
Represent FIERCE Advocates at community events, such as the Hellman Collaborative meetings, and the California Black Power Network Convenings.
Assist in developing and implementing resident-led change activities and curriculum.
Connect project participants to existing FIERCE Advocates programs and resources that support wellness and leadership development.
Humphrey Playlot Beautification Project
Equip residents with tools to beautify and create recommendations for critical changes at Humphrey Playlot that can be presented to the Parks and Recreation Commission over the course of 7 months.
Run and organize monthly meetings at Humphrey Playlot with the end goal of having residents present their park improvement recommendations at the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Black Village Network Project (BVN)
Support workshops, field days, and outings that have been identified as priorities by the Black Village Network (BVN) and the California Black Power Network
Inform and engage Black Village Network (BVN) participants in other PAO team efforts
California Black Power Network Project (CBPN)
Participate in CBPN meetings and represent as a liaison for FIERCE Advocates.
Coordinate with CBPN to recruit and lead a team of canvassers to advance important issues and help build critical, timely grassroots support
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Track program metrics, participation, and other data points.
Maintain systems to ensure compliance with youth data and personal information policies.
Is organized and self-motivated with exceptional attention to detail and the willingness and ability to meet deadlines.
Can coordinate project and event logistics in a timely and concise manner.
Can represent FIERCE Advocates externally, enthusiastically building connections with external stakeholders.
Comfortable regularly meeting and speaking with new people.
Is comfortable conducting interviews and one-to-ones that can thoughtfully translate to shared campaigns with residents

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree or related experience in public policy, organizing, systems change, social work or similar focus highly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Strong writing and direct communication skills for multiple audiences
Unfaltering and exemplary time and project management skills
Excellent presentation, workshop, and meeting facilitation skills
Ability to work well and collaborate with multiple stakeholders (CBOs, schools, parents, students, social service providers, government officials)
Technology savvy including posting on social media and email marketing applications, and robo-calling/texting technology
Must be fully vaccinated, booster included (when applicable).
