Director of Nursing (DON) Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)

Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing (DON) oversees all clinical and patient care services at our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This position ensures compliance with regulatory standards, fosters a culture of safety and excellence, and collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to provide exceptional patient outcomes. The DON is a key leader, managing the nursing team and ensuring efficient daily operations while prioritizing patient satisfaction and clinical quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Management
- Lead and manage nursing staff and clinical teams, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation.
- Foster a positive and collaborative team environment that prioritizes patient safety and satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the ASC Administrator to develop and implement policies, procedures, and workflows to optimize operations.
- Monitor staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage while managing labor costs effectively.
Clinical Operations
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care in compliance with ASC policies, state and federal regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Oversee the development and implementation of patient care plans, ensuring they align with best practices and clinical guidelines.
- Conduct regular reviews of clinical processes and patient care documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Support staff in resolving clinical challenges and provide direct patient care as needed.
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation agency requirements, including CMS and AAAHC or Joint Commission standards.
- Oversee preparation for regulatory surveys and inspections, ensuring the ASC remains in continuous readiness.
- Ensure all clinical staff hold current licenses and certifications as required by law and ASC policy.
Quality Assurance and Improvement
- Develop and lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and satisfaction.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including infection control, patient outcomes, and staff productivity.
- Chair the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) committee.
Financial Oversight
- Manage clinical budgets and participate in financial planning with the ASC Administrator.
- Evaluate and recommend cost-effective solutions for clinical supplies and equipment procurement.
- Collaborate with billing and administrative teams to ensure accurate documentation of clinical services.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Masters degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State].
- Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing leadership experience, preferably in an ASC or perioperative setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of CMS, OSHA, and AAAHC/Joint Commission standards.
