CLOSING TIME/DATE: Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at 4:30 p.m.
HOURS: Friday and Saturday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. This position will be required to work holidays if it falls on their regularly scheduled work days. Schedule will be determined by supervisor due to maintaining the efficiency of governmental operations.
RETENTION BONUS: All new hires are eligible for a $1,250 retention bonus.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Interviews defendants prior to their initial court appearance; does related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Employees in this class are responsible for interviewing and evaluating defendants prior to their court appearance.
During such interviews employees use standardized forms to obtain such information as employment histories, prior arrests, personal data, and family information.
Responsibilities include the making of recommendations to the court regarding a defendant’s eligibility for pretrial release and other services.
Information obtained is verified and evaluated quantitatively prior to submission to the court.
Responsibilities also include contacting detention facilities on a daily basis to ascertain the presence of new arrestees and the preparation of logs of clients’ interviews.
After initial training, employees work independently in the collection of data.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (illustrative only)
Contacts jails daily to identify defendants eligible for pretrial interview.
Collects data from defendants and verifies information to insure accuracy.
Reports information collected in the pretrial interview to the court and makes a recommendation regarding defendant’s eligibility for pretrial release and other services.
Maintains statistical records and compiles statistical reports on investigations completed and client status.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Some knowledge of state and federal laws relating to the gathering, verifying, and disseminating of client information.
Some knowledge of sources of intake information concerning clients.
Some knowledge of basic interviewing and investigative techniques.
Some knowledge of court procedures; some knowledge of departmental policies and procedures regarding pretrial investigations.
Ability to community both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of people.
Ability to extract specific and necessary data from records and reports.
Ability to make logical and accurate recommendations based on program rules and regulations and data collected.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
High school or G.E.D. completion.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Ability to travel to various work sites.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license and ability to be insured under the district’s auto insurance coverage.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Ability to communicate with the offender population, criminal justice and related agency staff, and other involved parties in individual and group settings.
Ability to assess offender characteristics and circumstances and organize internal as well as external resources to address offender risk management and treatment plans.
Ability to document observations, assessments and other related information in offender case files within specified time frames.
Ability to comprehend critical information and complex issues to make decisions within established policy guidelines, time frames and legal parameters.
Ability to travel to various work sites and participate in various work activities such as conducting available chemical substance use tests, court/administrative hearings and other related community functions, as required by the duties of the position.
Ability to utilize available technology in the performance of job duties.
