Peer Recovery Specialist
Department: Outreach
Reports to: Community Outreach Administrator
Position Overview: The Peer Recovery Specialist is funded through various sources and is responsible for working closely with individuals affected by substance use, homelessness, and other at-risk populations to ensure access to non-judgmental, person-centered care, treatment options, recovery support services and Harm Reduction services and supplies. The role involves program promotion, outreach, education, and advocacy, with a focus on reducing the negative impacts of substance use and supporting clients in achieving healthier outcomes. The position also develops relationships with other programs, groups and service providers to further the mission of the program.
· Conduct outreach to people who use drugs, people experiencing homelessness, organizations who serve the aforementioned populations and communities. Also, educate on overdose prevention and distribute overdose prevention supplies, harm reduction supplies and recovery support services/supplies.
· Describe available agency and local programs, services, and eligibility requirements in to people struggling with opioid and other addiction and those at risk of overdosing, as well as family members or friends of people struggling with addiction, informing and assisting them to gain immediate access to treatment, prevention options and Harm Reduction information and supplies
· Develop and direct prospective referrals to treatment providers, as appropriate and in accordance with clients needs and wishes utilizing a warm handoff whenever possible.
· Develop referral relationships with shelter partners, homeless outreach teams, local task forces, hospital social workers, faith-based and local community organizations, and other community-based organizations as appropriate, serving as their liaison to accessing treatment services or providing harm reduction or support services.
· Complete daily activity logs to accurately record outreach efforts, client interactions, and services provided. Complete weekly report summarizing activities, accomplishments and barriers.
· Demonstrate professionalism in working with participants, staff, and other outside professionals or collaterals.
· Participate in various professional, planning or coalition meetings.
· Participate in supervision with Community Outreach Administrator and appropriate continuing education activities related to care management and maintenance of relevant certification or licensure.
· Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
· High School Education/GED. Certification or significant progress toward completion
of Peer Recovery Certification Program or equivalent.
· Ability to complete various certifications/trainings by IDPH
· Ability to work a variety of hours including evenings and weekends
· Transportation/Insurance
· Ability to provide services to diverse populations
· Willingness to transport participants
