Coffee Shop Manager

Intro

Fika Coffee is a roaster retailer located in Lutsen Minnesota. It’s here in Lutsen where we operate all three segments of the business, those being Cafe, Wholesale and Online Sales. Fika is a rapidly growing company in which there may be opportunities to apply for other positions as they come available. Later this year we will move the roasting side of our business to it’s own location in Grand Marais. Opening up more space and time for the coffee shop to grow.

Job Overview

The main responsibility of the Manager is to oversee, lead, teach and develop the cafe staff on their work of providing hospitality and the preparation of drinks. The manager will make sure that the barista has the training they need and the tools, supplies and ingredients to perform their work. This position will be 3-4 cafe shifts a week and then 2-1 administrative shifts per week. 35-40 hours average. There will be seasonality to this job, in the busy summer months it will be more “management” tasks and during winter months there will be more bar shifts.

Expectations.

The cafe manager should be well versed in the story of Fika Coffee along with its Mission, Vision and Values. The manager is expected to have a mature understanding of oneself in the community that they live and work in. Additionally the manager should be well versed in the current operational systems and will be expected to coach all staff on them and also be part of their refinement.

• Continue to grow, educate & coach cafe staff on the Mission and Values of Fika Coffee

Tasks in Detail:

Training of Cafe Staff

Will train cafe staff on drink building, customer service, cleaning, and POS. With this training the manager should not only hold the staff accountable to the procedures, but be attentive to each staff member and give them the space and direction to learn and grow.

Ordering of Cafe supplies

Will be ordering all the cafe and cleaning supplies. Inventory of supplies should be done at minimum once a week, in busy seasons this may need to be done twice a week. With a consistent schedule in place and being attentive to inventory use the manager will keep the cafe sufficiently stocked.

Menu Creation

Along with keeping our standard menu up to par and making sure that all drinks are being made to expectations. The manager also has the opportunity and freedom to create seasonal beverages.

Create Monthly Schedule and communicate cafe news

The manager will be creating the monthly schedule for all cafe shifts along with making sure they are clearly communicating any and all cafe changes in systems, new offerings, and other relevant information.

Be involved with cafe hiring and reviews

The manager along with the appropriate leadership team, will be involved in the hiring process of interviewing and following up on candidates references. Managers will also be responsible for a scheduled one on ones with their cafe staff to assess work and help set goals. Manger will communicate with leadership team updates on it’s cafe workers and any concerns that may need to be addressed and/or lead to firing.

Oversee the execution of the cafe’s operational systems

The manager will be well versed in all of Fika Coffee’s policies and system manuals and will hold their staff accountable to it as well as communicating any updates to the systems. As a staff member you will be tasked with upholding both current and subsequent standards, policies, and procedures related to the operation of an excellent coffee shop.

Continue to grow, educate & coach cafe staff on the Mission and Values of Fika Coffee

The manager must show and demonstrate a thorough understanding of Fika Coffee’s Mission and Values. Managers are also expected to incorporate the mission and values into their daily work with staff and customers.

Accountability Structure:

The Café Manager reports directly to the Owner and is responsible for overseeing the café’s day-to-day operations and staff. All baristas and café staff report directly to the Café Manager, who provides guidance, training, and performance feedback. The Café Manager is also expected to collaborate with the Owner and peers across Fika Coffee’s business segments to support shared goals and uphold the company’s mission and values.

Pay: $49,512.00 - $52,001.00 per year
