As an Application Engineer, you work as a bridge between customers and engineering team using customer input and sales information to configure and cost the best packaging solution for customers. Being the primary technical resource for the field sales force you are responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. You will work in conjunction with the sales and engineering teams as the key technical advisor and product advocate. The Application Engineer must be able to identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues through all stages of the sales process and be able to establish and maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle.
Responsibilities
- Articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users – verbally, and in written proposal format.
- Develop & maintain expert level of product knowledge and application.
- Listen, understand, and convey customer requirements.
- Provide technical support and expertise to customers, e.g. respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs, testing applications, or customer feedback.
- Complete proposals on time, ideally meeting customer expectations on technical and commercial merits.
- Leads discussion within the applications team on the best configuration to meet customer requirements.
- Provide design and specification development support to consultants, integrators, distributors, & partners.
- Conduct product testing, when applicable, to aid in baselining system performance.
- Perform technical/ product training for salespeople, and engineers at targeted accounts.
- Assist in the design and development of new products and tools consistent with the company objectives.
- Maintain accurate records of target accounts, opportunities, quotes, projects, contacts, and correspondence in company approved databases
- Acquire and analyze customer needs and problems, making recommendations to the engineering team to satisfy needs and develop solutions to help future growth
- Aide in resolution of customer issues or difficulties in a manner that is consistent with the company mission, values, and financial objectives, when needed.
Requirements
- BA/BS in Engineering, Technical Field required.
- Minimum five (5) years’ related work experience required.
- Review customer technical specifications and requirements in preparation for the development of system concepts, costs, risk assessments, and proposal documents.
- Mechanical engineering expertise and ability to understand moderately complex customer requirements to generate a conceptual solution that successfully leads us towards a winning bid. Customer problems may have no standard or previous solution.
- Ability to write and distribute both budgetary and firm proposals to address customer RFQs.
- Experience in quoting, sales, and/or customer interaction.
- Knowledgeable with packaging equipment or packaging systems.
- Technical Expertise – application testing & reporting.
- Lead early Project Kickoff meeting and attend early Project Design Reviews to ensure conformance to “As Sold” Scope of Work.
- Problem-Solving & Analytical Abilities -
- Proficient in Microsoft Office & AutoCAD.
- Maintaining specific AE related fields in company CRM.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical design drawings.
- Strong communication, Interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
- Must be flexible and tolerant of changing priorities, must be very client centric.
- Ability to work individually and with a team
- Must be available to work/travel some weekends
- Understanding of cost structures as applied to building of standard and custom systems
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, or SolidWorks
- Ability to generate line layouts using AutoCAD
- Customer Service or Sales Support experience
- Project Management skills
- 20-25% of the time traveling throughout the year to different tradeshows, conferences, and customers (sales, demos, training) that may occur in the evenings or during the weekends.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000 per year
Benefits: Excellent benefits package that allows you to accrue 3 weeks of annual vacation, 10 paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave, Medical (3 different plan options), Dental, Vision, among some of our benefit offerings. Eligibility for insurance is the first of the month following 30 days of employment and 60 days for our 401K plan.
