Description

POSITION PURPOSE:
Provide expert diagnostic radiological imaging and patient care to assure a high level of quality care and service to patients, physicians and customers in and outside the radiology department. Performs a variety of procedures requiring some independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology program
  • Currently registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Licensed by the state of Nebraska as a Medical Radiographer
  • Must be able to share evening and weekend call, with response time within 20-30 minutes
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred

    • IV pumps, lifts, beds, monitors, computers, glucometers, oximeters, pneumatics, CPM, etc.

SECURITY/ACCESS:

  • Will have access to the facility 24 hours a day.
  • Will have access to confidential information abiding by the organizations privacy policies and regulations concerning this information.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides radiological services by exemplifying the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform a variety of radiographic procedures utilizing ionizing radiation for radiographic diagnosis.
    • Analyzes and positions the patient to image the required anatomy for optimal results.
    • Enters the proper technical parameters into the x-ray generating system to provide the optimum image.
    • Utilizes special techniques as required to enhance visualization of the anatomy.
    • Operates radiographic equipment, including the Portable x-ray unit, the R/F unit, CT scanner, C-arm and Dexasan Unit.
    • Performs procedures in various imaging areas such as fluoroscopy, diagnostic, surgical and portable exams and also with proper knowledge of supportive devices.
  2. Assists radiologist in performance of examinations by mixing and pouring contrast media, administering opaque media, holding and turning patients, assisting in sterile procedures, and other related duties as required.
    • Is proficient in starting IVs for patients requiring IV iodinated contrast, and assists in performing first aid as necessary.
  3. Maintains responsibility for the accurate assessment of the patient by determining their ability to comply with the physical requirements of the examination to minimize patient or examination problems.
    • Assesses the ability of the patient to comply with the physical requirements of the examination and explains the examination to the patient, prior to beginning the examination.
    • Develops alternative methods to obtain required images if compliance is not possible.
    • Consults with the radiologist in the case of unusual circumstances to minimize problems.
  4. Secures and returns supplies, maintains room stock.
    • Completes routine paperwork with minimum of error.
    • Performs a variety of related clerical tasks as necessary, including the scheduling of patients using FCH computer information system and AMIs Radiology Information System.
  5. Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.
    • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness, including provision for the contamination free condition of rooms, equipment, and personnel.
  6. Follows HIPAA regulations and ensures that the confidentiality of patients medical, personal, financial records, employee records, and organizational records is maintained.
  7. Participates in FCH committees, quality assurance, performance and quality improvement initiatives, and activities which support the facility and department operations.
  8. Complies with the state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of FCH operations and requirements of the FCH Compliance Program. Including but not limited to:
    • The Compliance Policy.
    • Completes all on-line training annually and as assigned.
    • All department and organization-wide policies.
    • Considers the impact of regulations such as Critical Access Hospital requirements, along with Federal and State of Nebraska regulations and discusses concerns appropriately to ensure compliance.
  9. Presents self in a professional manner and enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
    • Seeks opportunities for continued growth and performance improvement.
    • Always maintains a professional appearance and manner.
    • Dependable and completes work in a timely manner.
