Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
Assists surgical team during operative and invasive procedures. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Monitors surgical instruments and supplies. Is essential in the cleaning and sterilizing of all surgical instruments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Graduation from a Surgical Technology program required. Surgical Tech Certification preferred.
- Prior experience as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
- A minimum one year of health care training.
- Prior orientation to surgical procedures and familiarity with the identification and use of surgical instruments and Operating Room equipment preferred

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assists with preoperative preparation of the patient and delivers patient care in accordance to established policies and procedures. •
- Assists with preps, including moving patients, tying gowns, open sterile tables, etc...
- Completes shaving preps.
- Transports blood products and specimens.
2. Transports patients in a timely fashion between departments following established protocols, using stretchers or wheelchairs to insure safe arrival.
- Responds to requests for patient transport in a timely and effective manner.
3. Maintains supplies, equipment, and orderliness of work area to provide smooth workflow in the department.
- Cleans and follows appropriate sterile protocol to insure OR case carts are ready in a timely and effective manner.
- Delivers equipment and supplies by responding to requests quickly and efficiently.
- Maintains an orderly neat, organized and stocked work area.
- Maintains adequate supply levels on a daily basis which includes, but it not limited to: operating room linen, scrub salutations and brushes in scrub areas, cover gowns at exits from department, warmers filled with solutions and blankets, etc...
4. Maintains clean environment in direct and indirect patient care areas to promote sterility assurance throughout the OR in accordance with established protocols.
- Empties linen and trash containers as needs and follows established guidelines regarding disposal of hazardous materials.
- Keeps scrub area clean and floor mopped.
- Assists with cleaning and disinfecting the Operating Room rooms using appropriate cleaning solutions, as assigned..
5. Follows HIPAA regulations and ensures that the confidentiality of patients medical, personal, financial records, employee records, and organizational records is maintained.
6. Participates in FCH committees, quality assurance, performance and quality improvement initiatives, and activities which support the facility and department operations.
7. Complies with the state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of FCH operations and requirements of the FCH Compliance Program. Including but not limited to:
- The Compliance Policy.
- Completes all on-line training annually and as assigned.
- All department and organization-wide policies.
- Considers the impact of regulations such as Critical Access Hospital requirements, along with Federal and State of Nebraska regulations and discusses concerns appropriately to ensure compliance.
8. Presents self in a professional manner and enhances professional growth and development through participation in education programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
