JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Certified Nursing Assistant
DEPARTMENT: ASC
REPORTS TO: ASC Director
JOB SUMMARY: Trained technician who assists the practitioner and registered nurse in rendering professional care to patients undergoing surgical procedures within the center, in accordance with established procedures. Works under the direct supervision of the RN. Functions cooperatively with practitioners and staff exhibiting teamwork characteristics.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Workers supervised – None.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Graduate preferred.
- One or more years related work experience in operating room preferred
- Valid CPR certification
- Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Able to read, write, and communicate.
- Demonstrates a commitment to quality in patient care and maintaining standards of courtesy and friendliness to co-workers.
- Nursing/Ophthalmic assistant experience preferred.
- Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
- Able to maintain and comply with patient confidentiality and integrity policy on all matters.
- Demonstrate ability to take Vital signs (BP, P, R, T, O2 Sats) and identify parameters outside normal limits.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Escorts the patient into the surgical suite from the preoperative area
- Positions patient for the scheduled procedure
- Attaches appropriate monitors to patient for CRNA
- Positions microscope and pedals for the procedure
- Completes the patient card and the FDA implant card
- Assists in positioning floor lamp, laser, or other equipment when needed
- Enters in times, diagnosis, OR staff, and procedure in electronic surgical log. Records out time after procedure. Ensures accuracy of completed logs appropriately.
- Assists surgeon with after care (eye patch, shield, etc)
- Assist with transfer of patient to discharge area.
