Fillmore Unified School District Job Description SPEECH PATHOLOGY ASSISTANT                     BASIC FUNCTION: Under supervision of a licensed Speech and Pathologist, the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant is to provide direct assistance in treating disorders in students related to articulation and phonology, language processing, hearing, and alternative augmentative communication.   REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Conduct speech-language screening, without interpretation and using screening protocols developed by the supervising speech and language pathologist. Provide direct treatment assistance to identified students under the supervision of a speech-language pathologist. Follow and implement documented IEP’s developed by supervising speech-language pathologist. Document student progress toward meeting established objectives, and reporting the information to a supervising speech-language pathologist. Assist a speech-language pathologist during assessment, including, but not limited to, assisting with formal documentation, preparing materials, and performing clerical duties for a supervising speech and language pathologist. Schedule activities and prepare charts, records, graphs, and data. Perform checks and maintenance of equipment, including, but not limited to, augmentative communication devices. Assist with speech-language pathology researches projects, in-service training, and family or community education. Assist with hearing screenings under the direction supervision of a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist. Participate in meetings, conferences and in-service training programs related to assigned activities. Operate a variety of instructional and office equipment Perform related duties as assigned.   KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:   Knowledge of: Relationship of area of expertise to educational program. Specialized communication systems and devices, such as a picture exchange communication system. Generally, accept standards of health, sanitation and physical hygiene. Basic subjects taught in District schools including arithmetic, grammar. Spelling, language and reading. Basic interests, attitudes and emotional development of the adolescent. Personal computers and software including work processing, learning and educational software.   #50A  Page 2 of 2   Language development in children. Articulation development. Learning patterns in children. Student behavior management techniques and strategies. Safe practices in classroom and playground equipment. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Oral and written communication skills. Basic record-keeping techniques. Operation of instructional and office equipment.   Ability to: Remain current in techniques and technologies associated with the specialized learning needs in language and articulation development through continuous participation in workshops, in-services and other training. Work with students having a broad range of learning and/or physical disabilities and special learning needs. Establish and maintain a cooperative and effective working relationship with students and other staff. Assist in controlling the behavior and activities of students in a variety of situations. Learn, explain and apply District and school rules and regulations related to acceptable student behavior. Operate standard office equipment including: copier machines, calculators and personal computers (PC’s) utilizing word processing, learning and educational software. Perform routine clerical work such as typing, sorting, cutting, filing and duplicating. Keep accurate records. Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively as an educational team member. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.   EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: An associate degree with a major in Speech and Language Pathology Assistance, and be registered (of prove registration is in process) with the California State Board for Speech Pathology-Audiology.  70 hours of filed experience, supervised by an ASHA-certified Speech and Language Pathologist.  Bilingual Spanish is desirable, but not required.   LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Must maintain current Speech and Language Pathology registration throughout employment in this position.   WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: Indoor and classroom work environment.     #50A  Page 3 OF 3 Physical Demands: Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Hearing an d speaking to exchange information. Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor students. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders horizontally.   HAZARDS: Abusive and potentially harmful outburst from students. Exposure to bodily fluids, blood borne pathogens and infectious diseases.

Salary : $27 - $33
