Blow Molding Process Engineer Position Overview:
The Blow Molding Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting blow molding processes to ensure efficient production, high-quality output, and minimal downtime. This role involves working with equipment suppliers, tooling manufacturers, manufacturing teams, maintenance personnel, and engineering to sustain equipment and overall Blow Mold process reliability.
Blow Molding Process Engineer Key Responsibilities:
1. Process Development & Optimization
- Develop and or refine individual tank programs and processing parameters to achieve and sustain quality specifications and planned efficiencies.
- Monitor and influence key process indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, scrap rate, and part weight variation.
2. Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving
- Identify and resolve process-related issues such as excessive flash, warping, voids, and thickness variations.
- Work closely with maintenance teams to ensure proper machine calibration and mold maintenance.
3. Equipment & Tooling Management
- Support the selection, installation, and commissioning of new blow molding machines, tooling, and auxiliary equipment.
- Ensure proper mold setup, changeover procedures, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Collaborate with suppliers to test and validate new resins, additives, and tooling designs.
4. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all molded parts meet dimensional, strength, and aesthetic specifications per print and article inspection criteria
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for blow molding operations
Blow Molding Process Engineer Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 3–5 years in blow molding (extrusion, injection stretch, or injection blow molding).
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of blow molding machines (Bekum, Kautex, Sidel, Uniloy, etc.).
- Familiarity with resins (HDPE, PET, PP, PVC) and their processing characteristics.
- Strong understanding of PLC-based machine controls, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Problem-Solving & Leadership:
- Experience with root cause analysis (5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, etc.).
- Ability to lead process improvement projects and collaborate across departments.
Blow Molding Process Engineer Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to high-temperature machinery, noise, and industrial equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform hands-on troubleshooting when necessary.
- May require on-call support for urgent production issues.
