Machine Operator (Fabricator) Position Summary :
The fabricator is responsible for operating fabrication machines such as cutoff saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines, and punches that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures.
Machine Operator (Fabricator) Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Operate Fab Shop and Machine Shop machinery and equipment.
- Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
- Set stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template.
- Positions workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade.
- Pushes button or depresses the pedal to activate the machine.
- Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
- Measure workpiece dimensions to determine the accuracy of machine operation.
- Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from the workpiece as required.
- Perform minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces.
- Perform related duties as assigned by supervision.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Must be able to lift and / or move up to 50 lbs frequently
- Other duties as assigned
