Financial Data Exchange (FDX) is searching for an experienced and highly motivated leader to become its first Chief Technologist (CT). The CT will play a critical role in shaping the future of Open Finance in North America.

FDX is the pre-eminent industry body in North America for Open Banking. It is the only CFPB-recognized standard-setting body for open banking in the USA, by many measures the largest financial services market in the world. The CT will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with FDX's business objectives and oversee all technology operations.
FDX is seeking a strategic visionary that can help shape the future of the Open Banking ecosystem in North America. Our goal is for FDX to be a best-in-class standards body and to find new ways to serve members while facilitating more interoperable, efficient data sharing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technology Vision and Strategy :
- Developing and evolving a technology vision for FDX that aligns with business objectives and promotes the secure, private, and efficient flow of data across the financial services ecosystem, working closely with members.
- Proactively monitor and analyze emerging technology and commercial industry trends that will shape future data needs to inform the evolving FDX technology vision.
- Cultivate and prioritize key partnerships with stakeholders adjacent to or to become a part of the standard.
Facilitate evolution of the FDX standards :
Guide processes for members to reach timely consensus on scope, content, and priorities for FDX technical standards; gather and synthesize input to guide decisions.Architectural guidance : Help connect the dots across working groups, task forces, and committees to ensure our standards are cohesive and maximally helpful; answer technical questions as an expert on FDX standards.Deliver helpful member and developer tools to facilitate adoption :
Create easy-to-use, best-in-class resources and tools for technology teams that accelerate and simplify adoption of FDX standards.Run member engagement tools and platforms to increase collaboration and learning.Deliver and run certification, registry, or other ecosystem tools :
Build or partner to deliver tech solutions enabling ecosystem members to more easily validate and evidence alignment with FDX standards.Explore opportunities for FDX to provide additional ecosystem utilities that advance our mission.Technology thought leader & collaborator :
Act as a technology ambassador and voice for FDX (e.g., at conferences) and an expert resource to members and prospects on FDX technology issues.Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with technology providers, standards bodies, or other relevant collaborators.Proactively monitor emerging regulations, tech trends, industry developments, and changing market needs. Anticipate future market changes and guide members toward long-term standard evolution.Manage FDX’s IT operations and infrastructure :
Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to implement tools for running our business (e.g., employee tools, FDX tech stack).Board Engagement :
Serve as a trusted advisor to the Board of Directors on technology matters, providing regular updates on FDX's technology strategy, investments, and performance.WE’RE LOOKING FOR A LEADER WHO WILL BE :

Technical Acumen :
Standards Development : Proven experience in developing and implementing technology standards. Familiarity with Open Banking principles and global trends is highly desirable.Architectural Vision : A strong understanding of software architecture principles and the ability to guide the development of cohesive and interoperable systems.Technical Proficiency : A solid foundation in modern technologies relevant to API development and integration architectures, data security, and cloud computing.Leadership and Collaboration :
Communication & Influence : Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience presenting at conferences or industry events is a plus.Strategic Vision : Ability to articulate and champion a compelling technology vision that aligns with FDX's strategic goals.Experience and Education :
Industry Experience : 10 years of experience in technology leadership roles, with a preference for candidates with experience within the Open Banking / Open Finance ecosystem, including technologies used, key trends, global standards, regulatory frameworks, and emerging trends.Standards Body Experience : Direct involvement with standards bodies or industry consortia.FDX VALUE PROPOSITION
