What are the responsibilities and job description for the EHS Manager position at FINCANTIERI MARINE REPAIR LLC?
The EHS Manager will be responsible for the overall health and safety of the shipyard environment. This position will ensure a safe and healthy work environment by conducting hazard and risk assessments in all departments and abating any hazards using the appropriate controls. Maintains affective safety training of personnel on safety policies and standards. Manages, administers, creates, and coordinates activities to ensure compliance with government and company policies and procedures.
Major Responsibility (Functions/Duties):
- Applies all health and safety codes, regulations, laws and policies pertaining to the health and safety of the interior and exterior of the facility.
- Trains employees during the onboarding process and separately or with functional teams on a regular basis in all areas of health and safety.
- Conducts periodic inspections to ensure the proper safety and safeguards of equipment, machinery and the overall facility are in place and operational including but not limited to fire alarms and sprinklers, ventilation systems, and parking areas.
- Conducts regular inspections and audits to determine opportunities for improvement.
- Inspects emergency plans and conducts fire drills.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as well as knowledge as to each piece's usefulness and lifecycle.
- Inspects and inventories personal protective equipment.
- Organizes, identifies, and completes permits pertaining to health and safety, such as environmental permits, fire safety permits, and operating permits.
- Ensures OSHA Compliance in all areas of the shipyard environment.
- Performs safety audits on various areas of the shipyard and office environments as required by policy and regulations.
- Conducts accident investigations on all safety related incidents, completes necessary paperwork and communicates appropriate information to the Human Resources Department.
- Reviews all safety areas to review policies, determine causes, identify corrective actions and conducts.

- Completed Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) 40
- Understand and implement NAVSEA Standard Items, specifically, NAVSEA SI 009-72.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemistry, Ecology, or Biology.
- At least five (5) years’ experience in Maritime industry setting; Shipyard preferred.
- Knowledge of the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 45001.
- Experience in leading a team of safety professionals.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards, Local and State environmental regulations, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.
- Knowledge of Naval Sea Standard Items, specifically, 009-01, 009-02, 009-03, 009-06, 009-07, 009-08, 009-40, 009-70, 009-74, 009-93, 009-120.
- Has a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Board of Certified Safety Professional (BCSP) certification or ability to obtain certifications.
- Completed Competent Person Training.
- Completed or able to complete the Requirements for an OSHA Training Institute (OTI) OSHA 10 & 30 Trainer.
