What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Dental Assistant – Oral Surgery Office position at Finch Oral & Facial Surgery?
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Dental Assistant to join our dynamic oral surgery team. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in assisting with a variety of oral surgical procedures while providing leadership, mentorship, and support to a team of dental assistants. This is an excellent opportunity for a dental professional looking to advance their career in a specialized surgical setting. This position is located in the office and not available for remote work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the oral surgeon during all types of surgical procedures, including but not limited to extractions, implants, bone grafting, and other complex oral surgeries.
- Take diagnostic X-rays in accordance with office protocols.
- Prepare and maintain sterile instruments and surgical areas, ensuring adherence to infection control procedures.
- Oversee and mentor a team of dental assistants, providing guidance, training, and assistance as needed.
- Coordinate schedule, assign tasks, and assign assistants to cases.
- Develop training protocols for new hires and current staff.
- Manage the inventory of dental supplies and surgical instruments, ensuring that the office is always fully stocked and organized.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, documenting surgeries, procedures, and any necessary follow-up care.
- Provide post-operative care instructions to patients and assist in the management of their recovery.
- Ensure a smooth flow of patients, coordinating patient care with the oral surgery team to minimize delays.
- Assist in the management of patient anxiety and ensure a comfortable, calm environment.
- Perform administrative duties as needed, such as scheduling, patient communication, and insurance verification.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA and HIPAA regulations at all times.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of dental assisting experience.
- Experience in oral surgery or other surgical settings strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sterilization techniques, infection control practices, and surgical instruments.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patients, team members, and doctors.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in dental software and office management systems is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity for handling instruments and assisting in surgical procedures.
- Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and remain standing for extended periods of up to eight hours. Additionally, the ability to sit, stand, reach, and kneel for prolonged durations is required.
