About the Role
The Superintendent plays a critical leadership role in the execution of utility construction projects. This position oversees field operations, guides project teams, and ensures that all work aligns with safety, quality, and financial objectives. A strong focus on collaboration with crew members, subcontractors, clients, and engineers is essential to deliver results that exceed expectations.
This is a full-time role that requires flexibility, including extended travel and time away from home.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is primarily outdoors and subject to varying weather conditions.
Regular activities include walking, standing, bending, lifting, and operating tools or machinery as required.
Physical coordination and strength are necessary for the safe operation of equipment.
Travel requirements are extensive, with up to 100% travel possible for project assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure all safety protocols, quality standards, and project deadlines are met or exceeded.
Provide leadership and mentorship to project teams, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
Oversee project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to maintain efficiency and profitability.
Recruit, train, and retain team members while promoting career development opportunities.
Manage performance evaluations, address employee concerns, and ensure a positive work environment.
Identify and coordinate with subcontractors to support project completion.
Approve time tracking, invoices, purchase orders, and related project documentation.
Conduct routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any issues promptly.
Monitor project progress and resolve challenges related to productivity, safety, or quality.
Maintain accurate project documentation, including daily logs and as-built drawings.
Address changes in project scope and ensure proper approvals are obtained for adjustments.
Plan mobilization of crews, equipment, and materials to support project milestones.
Build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, including clients and subcontractors.
Adhere to all safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
Experience and Skills
A minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in utility or construction projects.
Hands-on experience with heavy equipment, such as backhoes, loaders, plows, and excavators.
Familiarity with operating in both urban and rural project environments.
Strong understanding of project management, resource allocation, and team leadership.
Qualifications
A valid driver’s license is required; CDL Class A is a plus.
Must successfully pass pre-employment screenings.
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and motivate teams in high-pressure settings.
Proficiency in computer systems, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Strong organizational, planning, and multitasking skills.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Capability to adapt to new tools and technologies in the field.
