What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Visitor Experience Associate (On Call / As Needed) position at Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco?
The Corporation of Fine Arts Museums (COFAM) is seeking On Call / As Needed Visitor Experience Associates. Working as needed, generally 1-4 shifts per week, On Call / As Needed Visitor Experience Associates provide a welcoming, engaging, and inclusive experience to the visitors of the de Young and Legion of Honor museums. Reporting to the Director of Visitor Experience, On Call / As Needed Visitor Experience Associates at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are responsible for performing sales, providing information, and performing other patron service functions in the Visitor Experience department as related to special exhibitions and in times of increased business needs. The staff handles a high volume of diverse requests and is expected to be a resource for all patrons. The objective of this position is to actively guide crowd flow, check and issue tickets and sell memberships, as well as to provide outstanding and courteous service and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction during times of increased patron traffic.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operates a cash register or computerized system to register sales transactions and issue member tickets and other access control items.
- Solicits museum membership sales onsite, including mobile sales across campus.
- Sells and processes membership and other related transactions accurately and efficiently; balances sales and income to reports.
- Collects customer data as requested and within legal allowances; uses CRM Systems and museum databases to assist all patrons with inquiries and record interactions.
- Assists members with service requests.
- Actively engages with patrons; proactively greets and directs visitors through museum environs including: proper special exhibition ticketing lines, special exhibition members' entrance, special event/lecture queues, and other spaces as directed.
- Assists with attendance tracking and access control; assists with coat check, checking-in visitors' coats, parcels, backpacks, and other items.
- Conducts on site visitor surveys and logs/serves as in take point for customer comments, tracking through appropriate channels and systems.
- Works closely with museum security officers to control crowds as necessary; uses available technology to control access to exhibition/gallery spaces and to proactively attend to customer service issues.
- Assures work space is adequately prepared for daily use by checking inventory of tickets, audio sets, and other critical materials.
- Checks stanchions and signage each morning, setting up and removing according to business/event needs; makes suggestions for improvement opportunities in these areas.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: A High School Diploma.
Work Experience: Must have two years of customer service experience, including cash handling and ticket sales, preferably at a non-profit cultural institution.
Skills and Abilities:
- Requires excellent interpersonal manner and the ability to communicate information in a clear and concise way.
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with Museum members, the public, and staff.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and donor database software. Ticketing software experience a plus.
- Strong follow-through, problem-solving, and administrative skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patron credit information, a professional demeanor, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Must be able to type at least 45 wpm.
- Ability to work some nights and weekends.
- Must be able to work on wood and/or stone floors and stand and walk throughout the work day.

The pay rate for this position is $20.00 per hour. There are NO benefits associated with this position.
This role is scheduled as needed, typically 1-4 shifts per week, depending on the exhibition season. The weekly schedule is provided in advance. At this time, we are especially in need of shift availability for Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
