The Coordinator of First-Year Experience (FYE) will support first-year students’ academic success and overall well-being. The Coordinator will work closely with first-year experience faculty to enhance their teaching practices, implement effective classroom management strategies, and integrate innovative instructional approaches. They will also facilitate communities of practice, collaborate with other departments, and contribute to the overall improvement of the First-Year Experience.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position.

Qualifications:

  1. Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Student Development, Educational Leadership, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience in student support and academic advisement for diverse student populations in a higher education setting required.
  3. Special Skills: Strong organizational and project management skills and effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required. Demonstrated experience facilitating workshops or workgroups, and cross-disciplinary faculty/staff development required. Knowledge of principles of effective teaching and curriculum design, pedagogical practices as they relate to a diverse student population, and familiarity with new instructional technologies, learning modalities, and resources preferred.

Essential Functions:

  1. Faculty and Staff Professional Development:
    1. Resource for faculty with classroom management and educational planning.
    2. Coordinates and delivers professional development in first-year experience pedagogy to first-year seminar faculty, including instructional induction, modeling, observation and feedback, and continued coaching.
    3. Supports first-year seminar faculty in adopting and developing proven and innovative teaching strategies, designing and redesigning courses, and integrating instructional technology, particularly in implementing high-impact practices.
  2. Facilitates Community of Practice (CoP):
    1. Assists in enhancing the transition and success of first-year students by addressing challenges, including but not limited to, student retention, engagement, and academic success.
    2. Collaborates with key stakeholders to share insights, strategies, and resources to foster a supportive, learning environment.
    3. Coordinates the practical application when implementing transition pedagogies, organizing orientation programs, and developing support systems for first-year students.
  3. Liaison Between Departments and Stakeholders Involved in Supporting First-Year Students:
    1. Collaborates effectively with the Title III team to ensure the planning of program activities and coordinate and align the first-year experience improvement efforts.
    2. Liaise with other departments to influence the development of integrated systems to support first-year experience improvements.
    3. Collaborate with FLCC Instructional Design staff to improve the design of first-year programming.
    4. Coordinate with faculty stakeholders and appropriate Advisory Boards.
    5. Facilitates college community conversations related to identifying trends and opportunities to improve the first-year academic experience in higher education.
    6. Collaborates with faculty through committee and departmental gatherings and encourages their participation in external professional development opportunities..
  4. Compliance, Assessment and Accessibility:
    1. Ensures all course materials, assessments, and activities comply with institutional accessibility standards and relevant legal requirements, such as the ADA and Section 508.
    2. Supports the integration of assistive technology and other resources for students with disabilities and promotes equitable access to education.
    3. Develops, implements, and assesses the effectiveness of FYE programs.
    4. Designs and administers surveys to gather feedback from students, faculty, and staff.
    5. Aligns programmatic data with institutional goals.
    6. Analyzes data to inform programmatic changes.
  5. Other related duties as assigned.

Benefits and Salary Range

  1. Competitive starting salary in the range of $52,874 to $59,094 and is commensurate with qualifications
  2. Flexible work schedule available upon completion of training; some on site work required at the Canandaigua campus

Salary : $52,874 - $59,094
