Job Title : Level 2 Registered Nurse, Emergency Department
Job Specialty : Acute - Emergency Nursing
Job Duration : 13 weeks
Shift : 3x12-hour shifts, D / N / W / Holiday rotation, 7 AM - 7 PM / 7 PM - 7 AM, full-time, 2 on-call shifts every 4 weeks

Experience : Minimum of 2 years in an Emergency Room environment
License : NYS RN Licensure
Certifications : BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, Stroke Certification
Must-Have : One year of acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse
Job Description :
- The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families.
- Assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaborates to provide direct care, applying appropriate interventions and evaluating progress.
- Demonstrates skill in various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions suitable for managing life-threatening and routine emergency situations.
- Utilizes relationship-based care principles to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain / discomfort and safety.
- Assesses physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, families, and support systems as appropriate.
- Connects with patients and families during triage, identifying initial management and prioritizing care in accordance with Triage Standards from ESI training.
- Establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, assesses nonverbal communication, and provides frequent updates.
- Conducts primary assessment of critical needs, identifies deviations from norms within acceptable time frames, and determines necessary steps / interventions.
- Uses direct observation, patient / family interviews, EMS reports, and data for secondary assessments.
- Identifies contributing factors, health history, and events preceding emergent health events.
- Assesses psychosocial needs, reports any suspicion of domestic violence or abuse.
- Reassesses patients to identify response to treatment and / or changes in condition and responds appropriately.
- Encourages trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.
- Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with education, training, and scope of practice.
- Understands personal responsibility to safeguard public safety through compliance with infection prevention strategies.
- Prepares patients, parents, or families for diagnostic procedures and treatments, making appropriate referrals for post-emergency care.
- Provides education on continuing care / healing at home, assesses learning styles, and adjusts teachings to maximize understanding.
- Evaluates retention of key educational and discharge instructions.
- Prioritizes understanding patient / family priorities, acknowledging them as central to all care and services.
- Embraces creating a Healing Environment as crucial in professional nursing practice.
- Keeps patients and significant others informed of care processes, anticipating patient / family needs, and maintains awareness of conditions throughout the emergency visit.
- Updates patient communication boards throughout the stay.
