JOB SUMMARY:
The Market Assistant provides a memorable first impression for visitors, making them feel welcome and valued. Visitors are comprised of individuals and groups of visitors, full time and part time employees, seasonal help, and volunteers at the Welcome Center. Responsibilities include promoting the Taste NY campaign, providing friendly, courteous service, as it relates to promoting and educating the public on the various New York State products available for purchase inside the market, and preparing beverages (barista services), menu items (foods), and merchandise for sale.
Responsibilities
· Responsible for welcoming, orienting, interacting, and educating visitors
· Engage visitors in a friendly, hospitable, and respectful manner and be responsive to their interests and questions, exercising good judgment when interacting with visitors
· Knowledgeable on the state’s geographic regions, particularly the finger lakes, its tourist attractions, winery/brewery trails, sporting events and keeping current on all local festivals
· Take orders, prepare food and beverage items, while being attentive to visitor requests
· Develop and maintain high-quality barista and customer service skills
· Operate Point-of-Sale (cash register) system by processing payments while adhering to cash procedures
· Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the menu and routinely update menu boards
· Promote excellent standards of safety and cleanliness, ensuring all counters, work areas and facility seating is clean, tidy, and hygienic
· Participate and contribute in team meetings
· Partake in on-going training, such as ServSafe and TIPs, as requested
· Regularly perform temperature checks, report any variances to management, and ensure corrective action takes place, if necessary
· Properly use and maintain equipment and report any necessary repairs to management
· Maintain adequate levels of products at all times
· Performs other duties or roles as assigned by management
· Assist/train visitors with information available to them via travel kiosks
· Distribute approved NYS travel related information
· Cross train as a Taste NY Market – Tourism Ambassador to assist in the operation of the market as needed
First Impressions/Community Involvement:
· Ensures collateral is up to date, stocked, and properly displayed
· Always maintains a professional image to customers and staff, growing Taste NY’s image and reputation
· Communicates mission and purpose of Taste NY to all visitors
· Provides exceptional guest service, accurate information and positive first and last impressions
· Monitors service levels and information accuracy
· Promotes the products for sale inside the Taste NY Market
