Job Summary:
The payroll specialist is responsible for analysis of client payroll reports to prepare and balance general ledger entries and assistance with payroll issues and questions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None. Report to the Payroll Supervisor.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Utilize various payroll systems to obtain necessary payroll reports.
- Review payroll reports in order to reconcile payroll information with general ledger.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of payroll and benefit information.
- Interact with accounting staff in a professional manner to resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Assist clients with payroll processing issues.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Able to gather and analyze information skillfully.
- Effective oral and written communication skills in the English language.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of payroll procedures and processes preferred.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills are a must.
- Able to operate standard office equipment such as a copier, fax machine and scanner.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in payroll preparation or bookkeeping.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift fifteen pounds at times.
Work Hours and Overtime:
- Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.
- Extended hours are required during busy times when payroll reporting deadlines approach.
Travel Requirements:
- Out-of-town travel is not normally required for this position.
- All efforts will be made to give as much advance notice as possible for required travel.
