Position Summary: Responsible for performing advanced professional engineering work related to broadband networks. Develop plans, specifications, contract preparation, administration, and supervision as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with good engineering practice. Is technically involved in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project. Supervise and schedule the work of other team members. Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects. Have client contact at executive, management and staff levels and the ability to present new concepts and project plans to the client or at industry forums.
Responsibilities:
• Design and develop multiple fiber OSP and Network Equipment of highest complexity.
• Prepare feasibility studies and cost modeling.
• Plan resource allocation, schedules, and inspections.
• Develop and review contracts.
• Lead client and vendor strategy meetings.
• Serve as the technical lead for all cross functional groups.
• Inspect construction sites as needed.
• Ensure the oversight and sign-off is the highest engineering standard and assurance of quality.
• Take responsibility for continuing education and certifications.
• Present at least 3 training session for the group annually.
• Present at least 1 session at a conference (public speaking) annually.
• Work with at least 2 Clients as Thought Leader and Account Management.; work to acquire at least 1 new client annually.
• Participate as active member in at least 2 forums.
• Present topics / papers at least 1 time annually.
• Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
Experience:
Required:
• Minimum 12 years engineering experience in broadband projects with an emphasis in Fiber to the Home (FTTH), Fiber Optical Distribution Networks, or IT Networks.
Preferred:
• At least 8 Telecommunications certifications.
• Expertise on at least 4 industry regulations and RUS experience.
Licenses, Certifications, Training Requirements:
• Must be Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.); at least 10 US states is preferred but not required.
• A valid motor vehicle driver’s license in good standing is required. No DWI/DUI convictions.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors:
• Work is primarily computer work, and most assignments are performed in an office type environment.
• Flow of work involves normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination much of the time.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Location: Remote; must live in the USA, with preference in North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, or Idaho.
Travel: Travel up to 20% of the time.
