Job Description

Summary: Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, the School Counselor will promote scholar growth, and respond to identified scholar needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career and personal/social development for all scholars.

Essential Functions

  • Support a positive, supportive school culture among scholars, staff, and parents through work with key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with leadership on developing social emotional programs and curriculum, including delivery of social-emotional instruction in grade level classrooms
  • Counsel scholars on a short-term basis individually, and/or small group, to help them understand and overcome personal, social, and/or behavioral problems affecting their educational, physical, social and/or emotional growth
  • Provide crisis intervention to scholars when difficult situations occur at school or at home
  • Provide professional development and 1:1 supports around social emotional intelligence, pro-social and relationship-building
  • Serves as school liaison with local support agencies and organizations;
  • Provides mandated counseling services pursuant to students’ IEPs
  • Collaborates with teacher(s) in developing behavior plans for identified/referred students
  • Plays an integral role in supporting the instructional team in the Response to Intervention (RtI) process
  • Collaborates with the leadership team in overall parent communication in regards to all scholars
  • Consult with and serve as a resource for scholars, guardians, parents, and teachers regarding the developmental needs of scholars
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, school policies, and administrative regulations, and provide monthly reports to supervisor
  • Participate in the evaluation and revision of the school counseling program
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and in-service trainings to remain informed of best practices and professional trends
  • Maintain professional and ethical standards as outlined by Code of Ethics and American School Counselor Association
  • Perform Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • Masters degree in School Counseling
  • NYS School Counseling certification
  • Experience in an elementary school setting preferred
  • Experience with Second Step curriculum preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,265.00 - $65,000.00 per year

Salary : $40,265 - $65,000
