Job Purpose
Fabricators plan, lay out and perform fabrication and assembly operations on sheet metal products, and set-up and operate metal fabricating machines. Fabricators weld components to specified instructions to predetermined dimensions and tolerances, working from drawings, sketches, and blueprints, verifying the component part is fabricated for the weld process specified.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive work orders, selects materials suitable for the job and fabricates and lays out work in advance.
- Uses machine and hand tools to cut and form pieces to required dimensions, solders seams, and reinforces if necessary.
- Set up and operate sheet metal fabricating machines, i.e., shears, bakes, roll forms, nibbling shear, beader, flanger, crimper, punches, drills, etc. to cut, trim, form, shape and prepare parts for assembly.
- Assemble and fit parts, using welders, hand tools, and equipment.
- Maintain welding equipment.
- Take personal accountability for job duties and results.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment, including machinery, tools and equipment.
Education, Knowledge and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Mechanical/Welding vocational training a plus.
- Excellent attendance.
- Minimum 3 years MIG Welding experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in welding to blueprints, and specs.
- Demonstrated proficiency to perform visual inspection of completed welds.
- Capable of performing precise welding operations with a high level of excellence, within tolerance requirements.
- Prior work experience in mechanics, hydraulics, wiring, engines or assembly methods desired.
- Be able to read and interpret blueprints, and drawings.
- Be able to use measuring equipment, and strong math skills.
- Team player who works to assist others.
- Experience or strong aptitude for mechanical systems.
- Certification from a vocational or technical welding program desired.
- Previous work experience in mechanics, hydraulics, wiring, engines or assembly methods desired.
Fabrication Criteria:
Duties include analyzing blueprints, welding jobs, maintaining production standards and producing consistently accurate work. Correctly welds pieces of metal together. Prepares materials for welding, cuts, grinds and cleans metal. Utilizes fabrication skills to complete all phases of fabrication. Provides feedback and input into the fabrication process regarding order of assembly, design, materials, fixtures and jigs. Conceptualizes and makes fixtures. Ensures correct documentation and processes are followed for standardized work process. Annotates and marks up customer blue prints for future reference. Produces work daily that is consistently accurate.

Work Environment:
Manufacturing Environment. Frequent exposure to noise, fumes and dust.
Physical Demands:
This position frequently lifts heavy objects and/or up to 50 lbs., and occasionally up to 100 lbs., walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively lifts and carries heavy loads. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand and arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. It also requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina. Seeing with the ability to read reports, data, statistics and information on computer screens are required.
