Summary
This is an emergency response position with the general responsibility to provide training and quality control review on shift with responding teams of EMS technicians in pre-hospital settings. This Paramedic Shift Supervisor will be under the direct supervision of the EMS Director. Responsibilities will include responding to emergency calls, Quality Assurance Quality Initiative (QA / QI), and training of the students and technicians. This position is under the supervision of the EMS Director and / or his / her designee.
Definition and Examples of Work
Provide emergency medical care and transport patients to nearest appropriate facility
- Respond professionally to emergency calls for ambulance service to provide basic and advanced life support care to injured or sick patients.
- Perform all medical functions of lower-level staff including all basic and advanced abilities and techniques.
- Manage and direct all first responders at the scene of a medical emergency.
- Communicate with medical personnel regarding patient care.
- Maintain awareness for personal and patient safety including scene safety, road and work hazards, and biohazards.
- Provide medical care for in- or out- of town transfers as required.
- Complete accurate reports and forms as required; maintain proper documentation for all calls and care provided in computer.
Oversee and supervise division personnel, coordinate functions
Provide training and coaching for new employees in the unit; this position is subject to on-duty training and will develop training materials as needed.Maintain consistent documentation to aid in annual performance evaluations, complete annual evaluations.Schedule staff, includes scheduling teams / partners for the shift, ensure ambulances and equipment are fully operational, communicate information, and ensure proper supplies are available.Oversee the proper completion of field internship by all levels of students.Oversee and assist with the proper cleaning and maintenance assigned to responding vehicles, equipment, and facilities.Oversee and properly review of EMS run data for purposes of QI review; computerize the records as needed for tracking.Assist the administration with budget management and strategic planning.Complete additional support duties
Provide stand-by assistance for other agencies and departments as requested and medical assistance associated with law enforcement investigations.Present public education and EMS training programs, to include public relations presentations and classroom teaching responsibilities.Assist with class instruction.Assist with quality assurance program.Manage the maintenance of equipment and inventory supplies.Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
High school education or G.E.DSuccessful completion of an accredited Paramedic class through an accredited two-year college or technical schoolThree to five years related experience and / or trainingPrior field experience in emergency response procedurePrior supervisory experienceCertification, License, Registration
Valid driver's licenseKansas Paramedic certification & recertification every two yearsAmerican Heart Associate ACLS, PALS, ASLS, and BLS instructor or obtained within one yearASLS instructor - preferredAbility to obtain CEVO driving certificationOther Requirements
