Description
Summary
This position provides evaluation and assessment of substance abusers to determine an appropriate course of intervention. The Counselor is responsible for providing individual and group treatment sessions to offenders in need of such services. Referrals shall be accepted from the Community Corrections staff, State Parole Officers, Court Services Officers, or other community referral sources. This position is under the supervision of the Director of Community Corrections and / or his / her designee.
Definition and Examples of Work
Evaluate and assess client needs and coordinate appropriate services
Interview and evaluate substance abusers upon referral using recognized assessment tools to determine if further counseling is warranted.
Coordinate referrals for services through the Rehabilitative Services Coordinator and referring supervision officer to ensure offenders needing services are placed in appropriate setting. Serve as agency liaison with inpatient treatment programs.
Collect information required to evaluate and assess needed services.
Track and submit required billing
Conduct individual and group counseling / therapy sessions; develop and maintain appropriate documentations
Conduct individual and group counseling sessions in accordance with KDADS standards.
Develop and maintain client files. This may include developing treatment plans, maintaining progress reports, providing feedback on client treatment performance, and compiling statistic data as necessary.
Work with other staff members and outside agencies to address client needs.
Manage and maintain programs, policies, and procedures; complete additional support functions as required.
Work with the program Director to establish and maintain program policies and procedures; ensures compliance with KDADS standards for program performance.
Participate in meetings, trainings, classes, and workshops needed for continuing education.
Develop and maintain LAC network connections, resources, and support.
Supervise practicum students working towards addiction licensure.
Testify in court as required
Track and submit required billing information to appropriate sources.
Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
Requirements
Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
Ability to communicate information concisely and accurately so others can comprehend the information being conveyed.
Ability to write clear and concise reports and chronological records.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local officials, employees, outside agencies and people from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
Proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft Office Suite, and / or related software.
Ability to supervise an offender caseload.
Ability to accurately interpret laws, policies, and regulations.
Ability to work with offenders and facilitate group counseling programs in a highly professional manner.
Knowledge of social services and area resources.
Knowledge and techniques in conducting interviews and family assessments.
Valid driver's license
Licensed Addition Counselor (LAC) through Behavioral Services Regulatory Board - renew every 2 years
Ability to pass a background check
Occasional travel
Occasional overtime
Regular and reliable attendance onsite at work location
