Summary
This position is involved in various clinical and clerical duties. The work performed requires the application of judgment based upon knowledge gained through practical work experience. The position is under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse and/or his/her designee.
Definition and Examples of Work
Perform clinical duties, including phlebotomy functions
- Perform phlebotomy techniques according to established protocols. This includes venipuncture and finger-stick procedures on all ages.
- Perform specimen collection, processing, and data entry according to established protocols.
- Access, input, and retrieve accurate information on the computer, client charts, and track patient reports/results.
- Provide information and referrals under RN and Clinical Director guidance and recommendations.
- Assist nurses on an as needed basis.
Perform additional support duties
- Order clinical/nursing supplies as needed evaluate costs and establish relationships with vendors, maintain inventory and ensure sufficient stock piles for different clinical/nursing supplies.
- Obtain laboratory reports, review reports for accuracy, and distribute reports to appropriate clinical personnel according to established procedures; may include maintaining lab logging results and preparing lab work to be sent out.
- Complete general clerical tasks of filing, copying, and answering the telephone as needed.
Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
- Excellent verbal and written English language skills.
- Bi-lingual preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Proficient in basic computer systems and software (e.g., email, timekeeping software, work order inputs)
- Basic understanding of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Ability to maintain accurate records of service and activities.
- Knowledge of general clinical procedures.
- Knowledge of health record keeping procedures.
- Knowledge of referral systems or having the ability to develop referral systems in the community.
- Certificate as Phlebotomist for Kansas or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications
- Ability to obtain Defensive Driving certification
- Occasional travel
- Occasional overtime
- Regular and reliable attendance onsite at work location
