Provides support and technical assistance to staff and the public in the administration of specific planning-related programs, regulations, and resolutions.
- Responds to inquiries from citizens, public offices, developers, and other interested parties concerning comprehensive planning, zoning, and subdivision regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Assists in the review of moderately complex development proposals and site plans for conformance with codes, plans, and regulations.
- Monitors and tracks applications, coordinates deadlines and requirements with developers and property owners, and records official documents.
- Assist in preparation of reports to the Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Board of County Commissioners, and other similar governing bodies.
- Collects a variety of statistical data and prepares reports and maps.
- Assists in establishing and revising current regulations, including zoning, subdivision, nuisance abatement, environmental code, general improvement specifications, access management, etc.
- Assists with the coordination of development incentive districts, including Rural Housing Incentive Districts (RHID).
- Initiates and writes correspondence regarding non-compliance to developers, contractors, and property owners to effectuate compliance. Interfaces with city departments, federal, state and other local governmental agencies, citizens, and businesses.

- Reviews access/right-of-way permits for compliance with codes, plans, and regulations.
- Reviews event permits and coordinates with other county departments for compliance with codes, plans, and regulations.
- Reviews or assists in the review of floodplain development permits for compliance with the county’s floodplain resolution and the minimum standards of the National Floodplain Insurance Programs (NFIP).
- Reviews or assists in the review of permits for environmental compliance with KDHE and all other local, state, and federal rules and regulations.

Responsible for investigating potential violations of environmental, zoning, and subdivision laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
- Performs fieldwork and investigation of potential violations.
- Pursues corrective actions and abatement through letters, memos, and correspondence; documents and maintains records of code enforcement activities.

Manages County community and regional planning projects involving GIS.
- Performs research analysis and data gathering and prepares and develops graphical reports, special studies, and related documents.

- Makes public presentations as needed to the Board of County Commissioners, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, staff, citizen groups, students, and others.
- Maintains and upgrades professional knowledge, skills, and development by attending seminars and training programs and reading trade, professional journals, and publications.
- Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
