Job Overview: As a Fire Sprinkler Designer, you will be responsible for creating detailed plans and specifications for fire sprinkler systems in various building types. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Layout: Develop comprehensive fire sprinkler system designs using specialized CAD software, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
- Code Compliance: Interpret and apply applicable NFPA standards and local building codes to all designs, ensuring systems meet regulatory requirements.
- Hydraulic Calculations: Perform hydraulic calculations to determine optimal pipe sizing and system configuration for effective fire suppression.
- Coordination: Collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to integrate sprinkler systems into overall building designs, addressing any potential conflicts.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and material lists for installation, and assist in the permitting and inspection processes.
- Field Verification: Conduct site visits as necessary to assess conditions and ensure designs are accurately implemented.
- Project Management: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of designs and adherence to project schedules.
- Quality Assurance: Review and approve shop drawings and submittals from contractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; an associate's or bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in fire sprinkler design or a related field.
- Certifications: NICET Level I-IV certification in Water-Based Systems Layout is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; experience with HydraCAD or similar design software is advantageous.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of NFPA standards, local fire and building codes, and the ability to interpret construction documents.
- Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in an office setting, including prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
- Willingness to conduct site visits, which may involve walking, bending, and occasional lifting.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to travel as needed.
