Payroll Project Inc. employs around 125 people across the cannabis industry. We are the outsourced staffing, payroll, and HR arm of a fast-growing group of related cannabis companies. We provide these companies with full-time employee placements in cannabis production, retail, and administrative roles.
Payroll Project Inc. is part of a group of related companies (client entities) in the cannabis sector. This Human Resources Generalist position will support these client entities. As a group of companies, our primary focus is on the middle vertical: cannabis manufacturing through retail. The right candidate for this role will feel equally at home rolling up their sleeves to process payroll or interview a line-level employee as they do developing and executing strategic HR initiatives.

- Fire Dept. Cannabis: A cannabis production company
- Feel Goods: A cannabis production company
- Mint Cannabis Co. : A premium cannabis retail dispensary chain with 2 locations
- Broadway Cannabis Market: A cannabis retail dispensary chain with 6 locations
The Human Resources Generalist will oversee all aspects of Human Resources for these clients and any additional administrated entities they may have. This encompasses managing the entire employee lifecycle, assisting management with workplace issues, addressing employee claims and requests, developing and guiding company policy, safeguarding and organizing sensitive employment data, and processing payroll. This role requires a blend of tactical execution and strategic thinking.
Responsibilities and Duties:

- Recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding talent;
- Assisting with and resolving employee-related issues;
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee personnel files;
- Safeguarding sensitive employee and company information;
- Administering company payroll and the human resources information system;
- Actively updating retail, production, and administrative employee handbooks to address emerging issues and policy changes;
- Serving as a resource for all matters related to company policy and communicating policy changes and reminders organization-wide;
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards;
- Responding to employee claims and requests, including worker’s compensation, unemployment, leave of absence, and employment liability claims;
- Maintaining and updating accurate job descriptions for all positions;
- Managing annual health care renewal and open enrollment;
- Collaborating with bookkeepers on insurance and retirement contribution reconciliations;
- Assisting, cross-training, and providing coverage for other team members as needed;
- Overseeing the safety committee and conducting monthly meetings;
- Assisting with insurance and government audits;
- Processing semi-monthly payroll;
- Updating the employee portal;
- Other clerical duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be 21 years of age or older (OLCC regulation);
- Must possess an OLCC Marijuana Worker Permit;
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a combination of a college degree and relevant job experience;
- Strong attention to detail with proficient organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff across multiple departments and locations;
- Ability to work across teams and manage priorities to accomplish multiple tasks with conflicting deadlines;
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills;
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances with or without notice;
- Intermediate knowledge of either Google Suite or Microsoft Office;
- Must be able to sit for extended periods.
