Little Sister, a brand new coffee shop connected to Fire Island Bakery, will open in the early spring. We aim to use the first couple months to establish our brand and build loyalty and recognition in the community.
The expectation as a Coffee Captain of the Little Sister coffee co. is to be available (at most times, with exceptions) and on site (40 hrs/wk) with a thorough understanding of our coffee program. This will require an expert knowledge of the operation and a careful consideration of whether each product (coffee drinks and other for sale items) is perfect and delightful. This can be done through delegation of certain tasks, directing staff, dealing with customer issues and being a support when and wherever it's needed. You will delegate to others when needed in order to cultivate a strong culture and positive workplace.
This position is largely a production role where you will be making and serving delicious coffee with an understanding of the mercantile operations while ensuring staff have what they need to best perform their job. This includes making excellent consistent coffee, rearranging products, stocking and properly labeling everything, ensuring that staff is staying engaged and informed, and knowing, showing, and teaching the ART of coffee and providing an excellent customer experience.
This role necessetates communicating with coffee staff, bakery leads and GM’s. Daily check-ins and continued education with barista staff. Frequent posting to slack in order to continually update and inform all baristas as well as other team members in and around the bakery.
A large emphasis must be placed on initial and continual training and maintaining a well run barista staff. Following orientation, there should be a weekly and monthly checkin with each employee. A check off list should be run through and agreed upon so we have clairified expectations and standards with each barista. Documentation and tracking when staff are failing to meet expectations.
