Fire-X Sales and Service Corp, headquarters in Hagerstown, MD, is an industry leader in the installation and servicing of specialized fire suppression systems and portable fire extinguishers.
We are expanding and have an opening for a Service Technician Trainee. Experience in fire suppression is not necessary but the candidates should possess proven mechanical, or related trade skills from which we can build upon to develop as certified fire suppression system/portable fire extinguisher technicians. Duties and Responsibilities:
Our technicians are responsible for all aspects of servicing fire suppression systems that protect commercial cooking operations in restaurants, schools, hospitals, and various other facilities. In addition, technicians sell and service portable fire extinguishers throughout a wide range of commercial businesses, and industrial facilities.
Servicing of this equipment involves a variety of pipe fitting and mechanical tasks.
Additional duties:
- Must have the ability to read, comprehend and utilize installation manuals, code books and other resource information
- Must have satisfactory grammar and handwriting in order to complete reports and other documentation accurately and legibly
- Must be able to work in industrial environments and comply with safety regulations
- Must be able to safely use hand tools, small power tools, and small power equipment.
- Must be capable of driving small trucks up to 10,000 lb. GVRW (CDL not required)
The ideal candidate would have:
- Basic understanding of piping or equipment maintenance
- Ability to comprehend basic drawings, layouts, and diagrams
- Ability to comply with stringent quality standards and perform detailed workmanship
- Aptitude and ability to measure, weigh, and calculate
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Clear driving record (3-year MVA record will be required at time of hire)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work confidently at heights (using fall protection)
- Involves climbing and working from a variety of types/sizes of ladders
- Involves working in very tight and enclosed spaces
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:
Will sometimes require working in adverse weather or environmental conditions (rain, snow, cold/hot temps, dirty, dusty, or greasy areas)
Due to our wide-ranging customer base, this position requires a willingness to work long shifts and/or overtime hours. Typical workdays consist of an 8–10-hour shift during weekdays.
Occasional weekend work is a requirement. The working hours vary and often will include early morning and/or late evening hours. Occasional night work is also required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to drive a vehicle for an extended period of time repeatedly.
- Working at heights, on ladders and in tight, confined or enclosed spaces.
- Physical fitness to lift heavy objects/equipment (50 lbs or over).
- Ability to bend and twist frequently.
- Ability to walk long distances, repetitively.
- Requires working under adverse conditions including, but not limited to, dust, debris, fine particulates, powders, soot, dirt, grime and mold.
- Ability to work in adverse climates and weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, rain or snow.
- Capability to sustain long periods of physical activity and exertion.
