DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As
a Director of Learning
1. Planning for instruction
a. Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health and recreation education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports to secondary pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education . .
b. Instruct pupilS in citizenship, basic communication skills and other
general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
c. Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical program, adapting daily schedules to accommodate weather conditions and to provide time for changing clothes, showers, instruction, exercise, and sports activities.
d. Analyze, demonstrate and explain basic skills, knowledge and strategies of
formal sports, aquatics, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
e. Provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.
f. Research and develop appropriate innovative activities utilizing available resources with District approval.
g. May teach one or more extra-curricular classes.
h. Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the overall safety of pupils.

Maintain surveillance over storage and use of such items as school-owned uniforms, towels, lockers, equipment, and supplies to prevent loss or abuse, working through student monitors or locker room attendants where appropriate.
j. Select and requisition uniforms, eqUipment, instructional aids and supplies, and maintain required inventory records. .
k. Cooperate with school in providing and supervising participating groups for activities such as Open House, Parent Club and Booster meetings, rallies, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events.

2. Teaching results -evaluation
a. Evaluate each pupil's growth in physical fitness and in physical skills and knowledge. Assess each individual's contribution to the perfomiance of the team sports.
b. Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting students solve health, attitude and learning problems.

Instructional techniques -execution (or) utilization of instructional activities
a. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
b. Create with assistance of students, interest centers and displays with material to enhance learning.
c. Select and requisition books, instructional aids and instructional supplies, and maintain required inventor)' records -as required by the District; may request speakers and field trips.
d. Perfonn basic attendance, accounting and business services as required.
Relationships
1. Teacher -student
a. Create and maintain an active, responsive climate for learning through positive rapport between teacher and student; thus, helping student develop and maintain a positive self-image.
b. Share in the sponsorship of student activities.
c. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.

Teacher -staff
a. Communicate with support staff to discuss individual student's progress.
b. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a District level.
c. May plan and coordinate the work of aides, teacher assistants or other paraprofessionals.
d. Interact with other faculty members.
e. Assume responsibility for keeping infonned about curriculum and co-curricular offerings for entire
school.
