What You Will Do:
- Schedules, updates, cancel and reschedule tests for out-patient services. Coordinate the scheduling and updating of patient tests for the ancillary departments. Schedules for the Education Department, Nursing program, and other programs as requested.
- Prepares pre-registrations, routing forms, and physician orders for patients arriving for outpatient testing, PST and Surgery. Ensure patient testing orders have been received and are attached to the pre-registration after validating and checking for medical necessity. Verify pre-certification has been received on required appointments. Flag accounts for missing information for registration staff including but not limited to demographic information, orders, HIPAA, medical necessity, patient identification and insurance information.
- Pre-register patients by verifying and updating patient demographic, insurance and medical data for accuracy for non-scheduled out patients, scheduled surgical patients and scheduled ancillary services.
- Understand critical communication techniques to obtain accurate and complete patient demographic and financial information.
- Demonstrate understanding of performing patient interview using appropriate techniques in a compassionate, empathetic manner either in person or by telephone.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all insurances with an above average knowledge of Medicare MSP Guidelines.
- Inform patients of co-pays, deductibles, or other outstanding account balances. Offer the pre-pay discount and process patient payments by credit card or check. Prepare appropriate paperwork and documentation. Refers all uninsured patients to Financial Counseling, if applicable.
- Consistently demonstrates ability to use the hospital related computer programs, copier, fax, and printer accurately.
- Courteously answers telephone using established greetings, and assists callers in a friendly, helpful manner.
- During periods of high patient volume, assist registration department by completing a registration, obtain signatures for consent for treatment, release of information to third party payers and various other agencies, for insurance payment to the hospital, and scan appropriate documents.
- Escort the patient to the ancillary department.
What You Will Need:
- High school diploma or equivalent required and completion of medical terminology class required.
- Above average computer and telephone skills are required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of surgical, radiological, electrodiagnostics, cardiac diagnostics, respiratory, and oncology procedures, medical terminology, ICD-10; insurance benefits and healthcare background, preferred.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
- Ability and willingness to work varied working hours, including early evenings and weekends.
