What You Will Do:
- Performs Cardiac Ultrasound Testing (echocardiography)
- Interacts with and educates patients regarding echocardiography
- Performs scans; using the M-mode, 2-D (color flow), and Doppler according to established protocol
- Informs physicians of observations, as needed
- Completes documentation utilizing echocardiography worksheet
- Collaborates with RN to perform contrast ECHO study when deemed necessary
- Ensures documentation of study
- Utilizes left lateral decubitus position for exam
- Identifies suboptimal images and utilizes strategies to maximize image quality
- Maintains performance level of suboptimal exams below established benchmark
- Ensures timely completion and distribution of dictated and transcribed reports
- Supports accreditation standards and assists in maintaining ICAEL accreditation status
- Preparation for Cardiac Stress Testing
- Interacts with and educates patients regarding cardiac stress test
- Reinforces and ensures patient understanding of procedure
- Attaches/disconnects electrodes; prepares set-up of stress testing equipment
- Obtains blood pressure and assists patients during testing.
- Records data on assessment sheet
- Performs Holter Monitor Service
- Interacts with and educates patients
- Attaches/disconnects electrodes/monitor
- Programs Holter monitor and ensures functioning
- Cardiac Event Monitor
- Applies and disconnects cardiac event monitors.
- Provides patient education related to maintenance of monitor and transmission of cardiac events.
- Manages data in software program and completes report preparation.
- Associated Duties
- Assists with quality improvement efforts
- Develops and conducts education programs in areas of expertise for staff and patients.
- Performs 12-lead EKG and completes required paperwork and documentation
- Applies ambulatory blood pressure monitor and provides patient with education related to monitor.
- Regularly demonstrates the ability to serve patients of all ages in the routine performance of duties.
What You Will Need:
- Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Technology, or a minimum of 3 years experience in cardiopulmonary specialty procedures.
- Cardiac Echo certification is required.
- BLS required.
- Strong background in cardiopulmonary anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
- Ability to identify cardiac arrhythmias and dysrhythmias.
- Ability to perform the following cardiopulmonary specialty procedures:
- Cardiac stress testing preparation
- 12 lead EKG's
- Holter monitor application
- Cardiac event monitor application
