Position Summary:
Assists the perioperative care team in many aspects, including but not limited to, patient care assistance, care of environment, transportation of patients in accordance with established methods and procedures of the Nursing Department and the Medical Center. Performs as directed by the Charge Nurse.
What You Will Do:
Surgery Environment
- Cleans surgical rooms between cases thoroughly and efficiently. Assists with the care of the environment by maintaining cleanliness of all areas of Surgery.
- Assists in maintaining a neat, safe, and clean environment by keeping items where they belong, putting items away from cases.
- Washes, dries, and assembles instrument trays. Writes description of instruments of flashed items/trays.
- Orders and re-stocks supplies daily.
- Transports patients, specimens, and miscellaneous items to, from, and within Surgery.
Surgery Center
- Assists with the care of the environment including the patient rooms. Helps maintain a neat, safe, and clean environment by keeping items where they belong.
- Completes miscellaneous tasks as directed including washing, drying, and assembling EKG leads; stamping charts; cleaning and assembling charts.
- Re-stocks daily supplies.
- Assists the Nurse for all patient needs, providing patient comfort and privacy.
- Transports patients, specimens, and miscellaneous items to, from, and within Surgery.
Other Tasks:
- Handles daily requests in a timely and efficient manner.
- Observes confidentiality.
- Participates in the Medical Center employee educational process.
- Demonstrates service excellence skills with peers, other health team members, patients, and visitors.
- Maintains adaptability.
- Assists with problems/questions and communicates information to Charge Nurse.
- Maintains a positive attitude toward change.
- Charges for equipment and supplies.
What You Will Need:
- High school graduate.
- Current CPR certification.
- Ability to understand and effectively communicate in both written and oral form.
- Ability to read and write small letters and numbers and perform complex arithmetic and financial application.
- Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner and maintain an accident free work place, including ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of Medical Center emergency codes.
- Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. Ability to comply with provisions of applicable M.S.D.S. forms.
